Liked: Laid back site with amazing views.
Checking in was easy, and I received a text the day before with the details of how to collect the fire pit that was booked.
Portaloo toilets were checked and cleaned each morning - yes they smell, but that's the fact of them.
There were some red kites who flew close to us and the ground which was lovely to watch.
Disliked: There was a youth or school group on the reserved pitches on the Saturday who arrived after a hike. They were very loud and boisterous when they arrived and into the evening, however they went to bed about 9pm and so didn't cause any issues after this. We were pitched right next to the reserved pitches, and will probably just pitch elsewhere next time.

Lovely location but facilities far too primitive for 2025.
Non-electric grass and earth tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch
Liked: A beautiful location, wildlife around, handy for nearby walking trails. Plenty of loo roll
Disliked: Showers toilets and sinks too primitive. No hot water. Only one sink for the whole field!to fill water bottles from. showers awful. Also the signage to exit changes daily depending on time, very confusing. It should be kept the same to avoid confusion. One day we drove past the farmhouse to get out, then next we did the same and the gate onto the road was locked! what a waste of time.

From the manager: Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay Rae.
We have 2 sinks and 4 water taps on site for filling water (they're all marked on the maps on the two notice boards, and all along the south field margin as with all of the facilities) apologies that you missed these.
Our exit is, on particular busy times especially when we have large 100 person large D of E groups, changed to avoid sending hundreds of cars down a one track lane as this has caused huge traffic issues in the past. Hence when we have these very large groups we put signs out and open up another exit lane on the farm. This has avoided all issues, but if you headed down the exit lane when the signs didn't indicate to go that way it would have been locked. The lane is only open when the signs indicate to leave that way.
Our facilities are basic, but we never pretend otherwise, to copy the section from our website that is in bold and underlined in regards to the basic nature of the facilities:
Please be aware before booking that we are a back to basics site, facilities on site are cold water showers and portaloo toilets, but for many this is the charm of the place, it is basic, but filled with gorgeous nature, with access to lovely walks and splendid views! But those who don’t take note of the basic nature of the facilities risk being surprised, hence we do recommend reading about the facilities before booking. This is back to basics no frills camping.

Non-electric grass and earth tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch
Liked: We booked two pitches, one tent and one motorhome. We were a family plus teenage son's small group of friends. We went to the nearby activity site run by the same people first and had great fun with the shooting for son's birthday.
As for the campsite, we loved that there was so much space and we could choose where to pitch, with miles of space from others (and each other!) There was a large group booking in a designated area but we pitched far away and enjoyed the atmosphere from a distance, they did not trouble us at all.
The views are lovely and we enjoyed watching the sun go down. The site is basic with portaloos and cold water, no electricity etc but this was all as advertised and reflected in the price and we were only staying one night so barely needed the facilities. We loved the idea of having a campfire to hire on the pitch, although we had some rain which was a shame.
Remote check in by phone worked well, with good helpful communication. There was also a pizza van visiting, which we took advantage of so that made the teens happy!
Overall, the site was exactly what we wanted, a great, rustic bonding experience for the young people and real relaxation for us. 🙂

Liked: Loads of space, clean loos, easy access from the Ridgeway (I was hiking it), showers (cold okay in winter)
Disliked: Nothing really but it's an exposed site (to be noted for windy conditions)
