  • Family campsite with great views in the Vale of the White Horse
  • A half-hour drive to the Cotswolds or central Oxford
  • Communal firepits with seating on site; firewood for sale
You’ll be in for a real rural experience when you stay at Oxford Oak Camping – this simple family-oriented site is just behind Farmer Gow’s farm park and shop in the Oxfordshire countryside. Back at base, pitches are pleasingly spacious, flat and surrounded by hedgerows for a bit of shelter. Simple facilities are provided in the form of toilets and showers, and campfires are heartily encouraged by the provision of communal firepits with seating around them. Firewood can be purchased on site to help such evenings along. With splendid views of the Ridgway and the Uffington White Horse there’s no mistaking the fact that you’re really out in the countryside here – but that doesn’t mean you’ll be cut off at all. There’s a pub about half a mile away in the village of Fernham, and it’s very easy to get to the A420 (the main Oxford-Swindon road) close by for your days out in the likes of the Cotswolds, Oxford and the North Wessex Downs.

What customers say

A tranquil, no-frills spot with neat ablutions. Guests rave about the welcoming owner, ample space, and great views. Mostly quiet, but large groups can be noisy. Toilet/shower availability might be tight in peak season. On-site farm shop and local sights are a plus.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Beautiful, peaceful back to simple camping site. Very clean basic toilets. Very clean , efficient showers.
Large , electric pitches.
Lovely owner who gave us a lovely welcome despite our being late.

Disliked Nothing to dislike. We were on our own mid week and then joined by two other couples. There may be queues for the facilities when site gets busy.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked A very peaceful spot behind a farm. A good sized field for privacy and space.

Disliked Not a “dislike” but would have loved the farm shop to include a few more fresh fruit or veg or baked goods for the morning!

Liked Really friendly host, lovely clean facilties.
Plots were easily marked, and camped together as a group which was lovely.

Disliked CmNothing to dislike, a nice additon would be a shaded area, like communal picnic benchs with sale/shade as was very exposed to sun.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked What a fantastic little site I found and so close to home.
A lovely ladies called Sylvia runs the site, she shows you to your pitch on arrival, tells you where the facility’s are.
The showers were spotless and super hot, same as the toilets, there’s washing up facilities too, which were spotless.
Will be going back again when I need a night away. Peaceful too. Top site.

I’ve seen some negative comments saying there’s no shops. When we all go camping we go prepared with food and drink, the little village of shrivenham is 3 miles up the road or Faringdon which is 3 miles away too with big supermarkets should you need them.

Disliked Nothing to dislike about a fantastic site.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Booked during the week so it was lovely and quiet. Just what I needed to escape the hustle and bustle of life.

Great facilities with a lovely warm shower. Perfect. There was also facilities to clean my plate & pan with a tea towel which was extremely useful, as I’d left mine at home. Toilets were very clean.

Farm shop located on site with yummy lamb & mint burgers, if that’s your thing.

Disliked Nothing to report.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Small, secluded quiet campsite, that felt safe - especially as it is lined with a tall hedgerow. The glamping yurts looked incredible!! Communal campsite fire pit - although no one used it during our stay. Pub a 2 minute drive down the road is incredible.

Disliked No essentials shop - there is a farm shop on site, but seemed more like a tourist giftshop than farm shop.

Had to visit the farm shop on arrival as there are signposts to "reception" but there is no campsite reception. As booked on pitchup, didn't receive "check in" information from campsite before hand (this was indicated by the lady in the farmshop), so didn't know to call on arrival - and had to go hunting for contact info!! Once I did phone to check in, was told she would be there soon but never saw her!

Local attractions

This is some splendid countryside, so come along prepped for walks or bike rides, either in the immediate surroundings or a little further afield in the North Wessex Downs (10 minutes’ drive) and Cotswolds (half an hour) Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you’re not sure where to start, the Uffington White Horse (10 minutes) and the area around Burford (half an hour) are good bets. You may spot some native wildlife as you roam, but for something more exotic you’ll need to head to the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Garden (half an hour) or to meet the snappy residents of Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes). It’s certainly not safe to get in the water there, but it is at Cotswold Water Park (35 minutes), which has a whole host of watersports as well as a beach area and fishing. For a bit of history and culture, you can’t beat a day out in Oxford (half an hour), punting along the river, touring the college quads and visiting the Ashmolean Museum. There are lots of scenic villages and towns to see up in the Cotswolds too – places like Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold (both 50 minutes) may be some of the prettiest places to see in the whole land.
