  • Peaceful rural Nottinghamshire touring pitches for CAMC members only
  • A 10-minute drive from Retford and 35 minutes from Sherwood Forest
  • Bicycle hire on site; under 10 minutes’ walk from a pub and shop
Nipping to the countryside for a weekend away or a break from work and life duties? If you're a Caravan and Motorhome Club member, use Willow Beck Retreat Certificated Location (a CAMC members-only site) as your Nottinghamshire bolthole. The touring pitches are on the edge of the village of North Leverton. First and foremost, this translates to excellent views of the countryside. However, it also has the nice touch of being just a five-minute walk to a village shop and under 10 minutes along a footpath to a traditional local pub. Guests can head out to explore on two wheels easily here, as Willow Beck Retreat Certificated Location has bike hire facilities. If you’re not feeling too energetic when it comes around to it, chilling out on the site is made comfy and convenient by a convenient amenities block with gas-powered hot showers, toilets and a hand-washing basin. The pitches also have their own drinking water and grey waste disposal facilities. On a lazy day, weave in a visit to the North Leverton Windmill visitor centre just a five-minute walk away. Built in 1813, the windmill is still going strong and sells flour and other local products. For a spot of shopping or café- and bar-hopping instead, eye up the historical market town of Retford 10 minutes’ drive away.

From the manager: Hi thank you for your review. The shower was we provide our complimentary no extra charge and the temperature is preset to 32°. The tap only turns the shower on if you fiddle about with the tap it I-regulates the temperature next time just turn it fully on and the shower is set to 32°, you are the very first person that has ever mentioned or had a comment about the shower. Everyone gives it 100% 5 star ratings.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch (members only)

Liked Clean and well organised a site manager welcoming you and explaining what’s happening when you arrive the toilets are clean there is two toilets and one shower but it seems ample for the five units that are on site. The shower is nice and hot and are free. the electricity is run by £1 or £2 meters we only use £3.50 after being there for two nights.A picnic table and water tap next to each pitch. Grey waste into the hedge . Chemical waste disposal available . There was a bus stop outside if you want to travel to Retford or further if you wanted to leave the Motorhome or Caravan on site there is also sundown Adventureland close by. There is a five minute walk into the village with a very friendly pub where the locals are happy to chat very dog friendly. It’s nice and peaceful with the grass area outfront the side overlooking fields it feels private and safe and a peace haven would definitely return there. Before turning into the site there is a lane which I think is an old disused road which after the Windmill is forbidden to traffic so a nice dog walk the Windmill wasn’t open when we went but the information board outside gave you plenty of detail It’s a small play area for children and an information room with books and any extras. You may have forgot .

Liked Very quiet. Large grass area for kids to play. Clean facilities. Large pitch with picnic table.

Disliked Not much in surrounding area so if you want to explore you need a car. No wash up facilities but it’s mainly a caravan site so most have one on board.

Local attractions

Whether you were raised on Robin Hood or simply fancy a good woodland stroll, Sherwood Forest (35 minutes’ drive) makes a splendid addition to any day’s plan. The forest has a short trail to the ‘Magic Oak’, a tree with a 10-metre trunk girth and a collection of up to 150,000 acorns when the conditions are optimal. If you’re up for a long-ish cycle, stop by the forest café before taking your wheels onto the Sustrans Route 6 passing by the outskirts of the forest reserve. Travelling with under-10s? Sundown Adventureland (five minutes) has miniature rides and quick entertainment for those still in their primary school years. Alternatively, grab a ‘discovery backpack’ from the café-shop at the Idle Valley Nature Reserve (Notts Wildlife Trust) (15 minutes) and go birdwatching from the boardwalks. Any keen anglers may want to go to Wetlands Lakes (15 minutes) for a day of carp fishing, as long as they’re armed with the correct licence. Otherwise, the National Trust’s Clumber Park (20 minutes) has 3,800 acres of gorgeous parkland including 20 miles of cycling paths, a second-hand bookshop, and an avenue with 1200+ lime trees.
