  • Small site a mile from Woodhall Spa's heritage attractions
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincolnshire Wolds and half an hour to the coast
  • Great walks nearby; spot Battle of Britain planes overhead
If you’ve got an interest in history in general, and World War II in particular, you’ll quite probably love a stay at Lincolnshire’s Happy Days Holiday Retreat. This small site is on the edge of the village of Woodhall Spa, where the Dambusters were based and which now has a splendid heritage trail to follow. It’s worth keeping an eye on the skies while you’re in residence at this site – the Battle of Britain memorial flight is based nearby and frequently uses the area for practice runs. And even if you don’t spot the vintage planes in action you may catch glimpses of some of the bird life that calls this area home (or the deer, rabbits and pheasants that scamper about at ground level…) Keen walkers should be happy with their lot around here too: nearby trails include the Spa Trail and the three miles of flat bridleway that run along the route of the old Horncastle to Woodhall Junction railway line (part of the 147-mile Viking Way and with local sculptures scattered along the way to spot). The pathways of the Lincolnshire Wolds are about 15 minutes’ drive away too, or you can hit the seaside around Skegness in just over half an hour. Staying a little closer to base, it’s about a mile’s walk to Woodhall Spa’s pubs, shops and restaurants, to its golf course and open-air pool or to the historic Kinema in the Woods. Amenities on site are simple but stretch to showers, ice pack freezing and free wifi.

Liked Our second visit to one of our favourite sites… As last year, there’s nothing to fault and so much to praise at Happy Days - great peaceful location, friendly owners, wonderfully clean and modern toilets / showers… Woodhall Spa itself is a great place to visit and Happy Days is perfectly situated to make the most of your stay.

From the manager: Ah thanks Mike, so glad to hear we're one of your favourite sites. Thank you for the lovely review. we look to seeing you again, maybe same time next year.

Liked Small neat site

Disliked Rabbit droppings. But also liked the rabbits, so hard to have one without the other.

From the manager: Thanks Tony for the review and score. We have tried to train the rabbits but sadly don't seem to have much success!

Apple Blossom electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great communication from owners via email prior to arrival giving directions to their lovely little campsite ideally situated just outside of Woodhall Spa village.
Had a warm welcome from the owners.
Amenities block immaculate with 3 x shower/ toilet/ wash hand basin rooms. Also had kitchen area which included sink, kettle, washing machine, fridge freezer and microwave- very handy and thoughtful additions.
Pitches had electric hook up if needed and were good size and flat.
WiFi was perfect at all times with good connection.
Definitely stay again when in the area.
Thank you Karen and Tony

Apple Blossom electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Small, quiet and all we needed.
Very personal, the owners/caretakers introduced themselves as soon as we arrived. Hovering is all the info we need for our stay. We opted to buy the fire pit package which made our stay to be honest. Sitting up till about 11 (being quiet) with hot chocolate and marshmallows

Disliked It’s probably not the place for you if you’ve got roudy kids who you’re happy to let run free. I just can’t imagine there’s enough space to kick a ball . Although they catered for kids with some outdoor toys and a mud kitchen which was very cute. Not a criticism.

From the manager: Thanks for your review and high score. So glad you enjoyed the firepit.
The children have room to play about but maybe not a footy game!

Highly recommended, especially for the hosts & facilities

Tulip electric optional grass pitch

Liked What a lovely little site. Stayed for 2 nights. The toilet and kitchen facilities were beautiful and also lovely and clean. There are only 4 camping pitches with hook up. A shepherds hut which I had a look in and it's beautiful. There are also 2 ready set up tents. We had a walk into Woodhall Spa which was nice.

From the manager: Many thanks for your lovely comments Karen.
We hope to see you again.

Local attractions

There are several places nearby where you can swot up on your local history. Start at Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre (10 minutes’ drive) to see the home of the Battle of Britain memorial flight, then move on to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (20 minutes) and International Bomber Command Centre (half an hour). Historic Lincoln (half an hour) has a cathedral and castle to wander around, and you can see where Henry IV was born at Bolingbroke Castle (20 minutes). If that’s not the kind of thing the kids are into, try instead the fast-paced track days at Tattershall Karting Centre (10 minutes) or Cadwell Park (20 minutes), or head to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Park (half an hour) to meet tigers, parrots, monkeys and all sorts of reptiles. Seaside days should certainly be on the cards around here too: it’ll take you a little over half an hour to drive to Skegness for the aquarium, seal sanctuary and traditional amusements, or you could try the dunes of Mablethorpe or the quiet stretch at Sutton on Sea (both 45 minutes).
