  • Peaceful Leicestershire site on a rural hillside
  • Leicester city centre and Rutland Water both 20 minutes' drive
  • Easy access from A47; surrounded by tree belt for quiet and privacy
The centre of Leicester is only about a 20-minute drive from Fox’s Furrow – and yet this site’s immediate surroundings are properly peaceful and rural, with fields and natural countryside views all around. The beauty of all this, of course, is that you can have a nicely varied stay here if you like, perhaps pedalling along National Cycle Route 63 one day (it’s about a mile away) and then heading into the city to visit the National Space Centre the next. There’s a bus stop just under a mile away in the village of Houghton on the Hill if you’d rather travel by public transport. Also in the village are a couple of pubs, a village shop, a pharmacy and a fish and chip shop – all of it handily a short walk away across the fields (or a couple of minutes in the car). Getting in, out and all around should be straightforward here as the site is about a quarter of a mile from the A47; there’s no hint of the main road while on site, though, as the place has a very natural feel to it and is surrounded by a tree belt that provides plenty of privacy as well as acting as a home to local wildlife. In keeping with this rural setting, facilities have been kept to a minimum here – the essentials are covered, however, with a wifi connection, a washing-up area and toilet/shower facilities housed in a very stylishly decorated classic shepherd’s hut.

What customers say

A quiet countryside spot with great, clean ablutions. Pitches are a bit sloped (blocks provided), but the owners are helpful, and the shop's charming. Ideal for a chill break, though 6-amp electrics can be a bit tight. Near Leicester.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked This was our second visit to foxes furrows..Nice quite little site.

Disliked Bit disappointed on our second visit.
Washing up area was a complete mess.
Not sure how often the loos were checked but there is no excuse when you have to go looking for loo roll

From the manager: Hi David- Thanks for your feedback. We’re pleased you enjoyed the quiet, secluded nature of the site, but we’re sorry the facilities weren’t up to standard during your stay.

We actively encourage guests to let us know during their stay if anything needs attention. This gives us the opportunity to sort things out straight away rather than after they’ve left.

We’ll be reviewing the cleaning and checking of the facilities to make sure they’re maintained to the standard we expect.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Quiet campsite, good location, nice woodland walk. Fresh eggs available to buy (when available) Showers clean and plenty of hot water. Lights down to pitches look lovely. Laid back atmosphere.

Disliked Pitches slope but manageable and levelling ramps available to borrow if needed. Footpath to walk to pub has been blocked off so have to walk along the road - mostly a quiet lane but partly a busy A road, there was a pavement but noisy traffic.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Toilets/ showers clean and up to date. Site nice and quiet

Disliked The grass not cut so looked unkempt in places, but this may not have been cut due to the hot summer?

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Yvonne, I’m glad you liked the site! Yes absolutely- just to confirm we have been unable to cut the grass for a few weeks due to the weather being in the high 20s and the grass being dead. Thank you again for staying!

Lovely break, enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Everything was cleaning while organised. The toilets and the washing block was particularly clean throughout my stay. Grass as well manicured, and despite the fact that there is light slopes it really didn't much of a difference. Complete woodland area, it was a fantastic respite for two days. I'd recommend this campsite to anyone.

Disliked There is nothing at all that I disliked. All the amenities were present.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Quiet, small, well maintained, lovely facilities and cute onsite honesty shop-caravan... Perfect little stay for mums & youngsters in our camper. Has a small camping field that was empty while we were there. Surrounded by modest woodland and nice views from the entrance, where very contented chickens can be found in their coop. Short drive from Rutland Water

Local attractions

Getting out to see more of your rural surroundings should be easy enough here, as there are some great walks in the vicinity, along with those bike rides on National Cycle Route 63. Rutland Water (20 minutes’ drive) is another good place for a walk or a bike ride (there’s a path that goes all the way round the lake), and you can also play golf, try your hand at sailing or bounce across the inflatable aqua park. If the kids are keen to meet cute animals, head along to Windmill Farm Park (15 minutes) for indoor and outdoor animals, play areas and a café. Bird on the Hand Falconry Experiences (15 minutes) makes a great day out for those keen to get up close to the big birds. Over in Leicester (20 minutes) there are plenty of options for a day out (especially if you need rainy-day activities) – the city is home to the National Space Centre as well as the Retro Computer Museum and King Richard III Visitor Centre.
