  • Small site with fishing lake next to an 18th-century coaching inn
  • Within a half-hour drive of Drayton Manor, Snowdome and Twycross Zoo
  • A 40-minute drive from Birmingham's Cadbury World and Science Museum
The first sight for many folk arriving at New Forest View is a bear. Don’t bolt… he’s called Bosworth (after the famed 15th-century battlefield nearby)… and he doesn’t move. Which is a bit of a shame for him, for there's a hefty spread of activities and attractions in the surrounding heart of England counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and beyond, from forest walks and wildlife encounters to winter sports, fishing and waterskiing. Get cracking right on site, as this small Leicestershire park for touring vehicles has its own fishing pond, bookable in advance. Next door, the coaching inn has been welcoming thirsty and hungry travellers for four centuries, with real ales, bar snacks and restaurant meals, regular Chinese and Indian carvery nights and a beer garden with a kids’ play area (which might not have been there four centuries ago…). For true fishing aficionados, there are further carp to be caught a five-minute drive away at Tucker’s Holt, and at Kingsbury Waterpark (half an hour). The latter makes a decent destination for non-anglers as well, with walks, cycle trails and birdwatching, plus waterskiing and jetskiing on the lakes. Dogs are welcome on this site.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The camp ranger was on hand to welcome us and showed us to our pitch. The toilet block was clean. The pitches were a good size with grass and hardstanding on the pitch. It was a quiet and friendly, well presented site and well maintained and secure. Lovely set up. There is a pub (Globe) in the village approx 20 mins walk away, lovely pub, friendly and good food. We will definitely be returning

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: We stayed here for easter weekend with some friends and we had a lovely time. The site is lovely I like that all the vans look at the pond in the middle. There was a few fishermen which was nice to see. Wayne the warden is a real credit to the site, approachable and friendly and a pleasure to stop and chat to. We had no electricity on the first night due to a trip from someone else, we woke up and the van was 12 degrees Wayne was apologetic and said we could have knocked at his van but that's not something we would have done but it was quickly resolved in the morning. Thank you Wayne! We had some friends visit and we did an egg hunt for them around the park which was great. The pub next door did an Easter Sunday lunch and it was expensive but really tasty and good value for money. Would recommend a visit, there is a gate taking you straight to the pub. The site is easily accessible and I would highly recommend the gravel pitches in the winter/spring months due to rainfall and flooding, lots of the vans/motorhomes on the grass were moved or left or cancelled, I can imagine in the summer they will be lovely. Gated entrance with a code and found we felt very secure and safe. We would be back but only due to location and convenience of the site, not the facilities.

Disliked: The owners didn't wave once or even smile which I found to be particularly rude. The park is ok but boring for the slightly older child. I didn't like that the shower was chargeable as this is what we pay the pitch fee for, it doesn't matter if I shower in my van or in the block I use the same amount of water and electricity so this was very disappointing. We held of showering the kids until we arrived at our next site.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Friendly welcome on arrival and shown to pitch, nice park and pond. Clean site

Disliked: Electric tripped every night, grass pitches were really muddy and there was music being played loudly from another camper. WiFi is shocking. For the price we paid we wouldn’t visit again.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Brilliant site, small and compact. Wayne was very accommodating, very helpful as we are new in the camping game, we asked quite a few questions. The pub next door was also brilliant and they do a fantastic Sunday lunch. Thanks for a brilliant stay.

Local attractions

To learn more about Bosworth and its battle, you could steam over there in suitably historic style, taking a vintage train ride from Shackerstone (10 minutes’ drive), or if you prefer 21st-century transport, the Battlefield Heritage Centre is 20 minutes away. For the thrills of the battlefield without the other bits, Drayton Manor Theme Park has all manner of white-knuckle adventure rides, or you could hit the icy slopes of the year-round indoor Tamworth Snowdrome (both half an hour away). Warm up afterwards with a trip round the spicy eateries of Birmingham’s Balti Triangle, topped off by sticky sweet chocolate factory tours at Cadbury World and experimental missions at the city’s Thinktank Science Museum (40 minutes). How wild do you like your wildlife? Twyford Zoo (10 minutes) has tarantulas and snow leopards; there’s a riot of feathered colours flapping about at Tropical Birdland (20 minutes), and wooded walks with those cute South American camelids at National Forest Llama Treks are within half an hour. It’s a 15-minute trip to see the early stages of the New National Forest, and there’s bike hire at the Youth Hostel if you want to see the saplings from the saddle. More mature woodland, plus walks, horse riding and birdwatching can be sampled at Sence Valley Forest Park, 10 minutes’ drive away, or you can beetle over to Bradgate Park (half an hour) on Leicester’s outskirts, for gentle hills and Tudor history, deer herds and skylarks.
