View from the campsite

  • Adults-only campsite in hilly countryside near Market Harborough
  • A 10-minute drive to Foxton Locks, and 20 to Lutterworth
  • Covered communal eating area; dark skies site and wildlife haven
Base yourself at Valley View Campsite for a peaceful, adults-only stay among Leicestershire hills and valleys near Market Harborough, or use the place as a base for day trips to the bright lights of Birmingham (an hour’s drive). Either way, those far-reaching rural views come as standard on all the spacious pitches. No-frills facilities cover spotlessly clean showers and loos. Barbecues are allowed or you can pick up takeaways in Fleckney (five minutes’ drive) and eat in The Barn, an undercover communal dining area for unwinding, meeting fellow guests and doing the washing up. If the weather is behaving and conditions are right, you may catch some colourful sunrises and sunsets, and as the area has a low level of light pollution, some serious stargazing is possible on clear nights. The site is also something of a wildlife haven, so keep your eyes peeled for sparrow hawks and buzzards, rabbits and deer. Dogs are welcome at Valley View, and there’s a separate area where you can take them for exercise.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked First time camping.
Received a text with travel guidance on the morning and advising us to call when we arrive. We were met at the gate and taken to our pitch by the owner who was very friendly and upbeat despite it just starting to rain.
The grounds were well maintained with fantastic views of the surrounding fields with cows and sheep.
There is a communal area with washing up sinks, fridge, comfy sofas, dining table, access to the toilets and showers and tea/coffee facilities. Toilets/Showers were clean.
Raised bbqs/firepits are allowed and we saw the owner kinky providing a bit of fire wood to another visitor.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The view was absolutely outstanding, alongside with a very friendly host who was able to suggest local attractions and places to visit as well as restaurants to visit and experience.

The location is easy to find and close by little towns that have a fantastic community that were more than welcoming and happy to give you time to look around and take in the whole experience.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Good sized pitches, picturesque setting, friendly welcome, very good clean facilities.

Disliked Only minor improvement would be to have a tap where the Elsan point is instead of a watering can. But otherwise great site, thank you.

Local attractions

Starting in the village of Mowsley, have a wander on foot around the Laughton Hills or do some exploring on horseback from the local riding stables (both five minutes’ drive). For a gentle stroll, follow the Grand Union Canal towpath out of the village – it’s an easy walk to Foxton Locks (10 minutes), where you can watch barges ascend a flight of 10 locks, hire a boat to chug along the canal yourself, or have a nose around Foxton Canal Museum (15 minutes). Exercise completed for the day? Foxton Locks Inn is the spot for a virtuous post-walk pint and a bite to eat. If you have the urge to spend some of your hard-earned cash, Market Harborough (15 minutes’ drive) is packed with antiques emporiums and unusual shops, or try Lutterworth (20 minutes) for its historic Thursday market and stick around for a tour of elegant 17th-century Stanford Hall (20 minutes, check opening dates before you visit).
