Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Location was amazing on the banks of the Wye. The Pitches were really well spaced out so you were not close to anyone else, and the facilities were spotlessly clean, each pitch gets their own toilet which was fantastic. Watching the Stag moon come up behind Goodrich castle when we were the only people on site was spectacular!

Disliked Slightly difficult to find from the A40 as Google maps does not take you to the location, just to a layby near the location, a detailed description on the web page or in the app would be most appreciated.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Really well laid-out site with well-spaced pitches mown into long meadow grasses, mature oak trees dotted around.

The facilities - in as far as they go - are adequate, clean and well maintained.

The absence of cars anywhere near the pitches is a welcome move, though some more robust trolleys and wheelbarrows would be helpful.

The groups of young people enjoying their post-gcse/A-level/finals get-togethers were overwhelmingly respectful of camping etiquette and there were no issues with music or thoughtless behaviour.

Disliked The A40 is really very close; it's a busy road and there's a fairly lengthy hill at that point, so the background traffic noise detracts from the tranquil vibe of the site itself.

The facilitates are festival style portacabin affairs - individual toilets and showers, and two big outdoor catering sinks (with cold water only). No washroom or anywhere to wash dishes rapidly becomes rather limiting if you intend to cook, and although that wasn't a major issue for a 2 night stay, it did go some way to explaining why there were no families or other people over ~25 on the site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked A beautiful green meadow setting beside the River Wye, with stunning views of Goodrich Castle. The pitches are generously spaced out, connected by mown pathways through the grass, creating a peaceful and natural atmosphere. The tranquility of the site is truly special. The facilities were of good quality, and we liked that each pitch had its own designated toilet.
Good river hire activities close by and some smaller local shops within 5 miles

Disliked There were ample wheelbarrows to transfer belongings to and from the car but noticed the lack of ‘returning the wheelbarrow’ etiquette. This is difficult for the site to manage though I appreciate.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We canoed in & out, easy access. Generous pitch with a picnic table which was a fab as we couldn't fit camping chairs etc in the canoe! Loved the space between other campers, friendly site but also quiet at night. Amazed we had our own designated loo and showers were hot & clean. Calm campsite with space to feel free, dog and child very happy as were we.

Disliked You can hear the road but if camping along this stretch of the river this is unavoidable. It should be noted we had a better nights sleep here than in previous campsite due to space around the pitches and size of campsite.

Fire pit - we didn't purchase as a bit pricey for 1 night, if staying longer would have.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Good communication and quick a response to my questions.
We loved the individual allocated toilet.
The showers were good and both facilities were cleaned every day.
Also we arranged for a canoe trip that left from the site , very convenient.
The area was nice and a very good space between the campers .
We will return.

Disliked Only that the shower was very hot and you could turn it down , although out daughter loved it.

Local attractions

Cram your days full of adrenaline-fuelled adventures if you wish, but it's highly possible you'll need a little breather now and then: a good place to start is Goodrich Castle, a well-preserved medieval number a five-minute drive or 40-minute walk away. Checking out the pretty flutterers at Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo (five minutes' drive) is a good way to spend a laidback couple of hours, as is watching the rather grander flying displays at the International Centre for Birds of Prey (20 minutes). Tintern Abbey and Clearwell Caves (both 25 minutes) are good additions to the schedule too. If you’d rather keep the activity going but at a gentler pace, take a walk on one of the trails within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or make your way to the local cycle centre (15 minutes' drive), to hire bikes to take out on 11 miles of traffic-free Forest of Dean trail. Segway tours and a Go Ape adventure park are in the forest too, 20 minutes’ drive away.
