As you’d expect from the name, Whitemead Forest Park is surrounded by woodland. And not just any old woodland... but the age-old Forest of Dean, one-time stamping ground of the royals and their pals. It’s not hard to see why the regal types would flock to this part of Gloucestershire – the surrounds are most scenic, and packed with plenty of things to do including days of wandering among ancient trees (on foot, on bikes or on horseback), exploring spooky caves and riding rural railways. So far, so peaceful… and that vibe is stretched out to the park’s facilities too, which include a free gym, sauna, steam room and spa pools. And if you’re in charge of kids that have more active plans in mind? Such scenarios are sorted too: the indoor swimming pool has a kids’ area, and there are also several outdoor play areas scattered around the site. Through the summer holidays, the park’s all abuzz with various activities they can join in with (for an extra charge). Despite all this activity, there’s little chance of going hungry here – the restaurant serves all day from breakfast to dinner (via afternoon tea…) with a couple of bars also on hand to provide the drinks and entertainment. If you’d like to venture out, there are a couple of pubs in the nearby village of Parkend (10 minutes’ walk) and lots of restaurants and shops in Lydney (10 minutes’ drive).

A popular, well-kept spot with great facilities: pool, spa, entertainment. Spacious, clean pitches, forest walks, friendly staff are big pluses. Mostly great family fun, but Wi-Fi, noise, and dog rules in main buildings were minor concerns. A few guests had issues with communication/staff.

Liked Site in general, easy to walk round the indoor pool area was fantastic as the weather wasn’t great we spent lots of time in it , no booking required and no pressure to get out , only slight downside was the lockers and number weren’t working and or had to be opened by the pool staff. Bar area and food really good and reasonable prices

Mega camping pod (no pets)

Liked The Pod was warm and very Comfortable. The food at the bar was good quality and the staff were all very accommodating. The Pool was nice and warm and facilities Clean.

Disliked The Weather was a bit Pony.
I’d say the crazy Golf although good fun was quite expensive for what it was.

Liked Fantastic stay again ,beautiful set in autumnal November the colours are wonderful this time of year.

Again Staff are very helpful and attentive nothing to much trouble, the spa and pool excellent, clean and relaxing just 10/10 can't wait to return.

Liked Lovely pitch on the edge of Forest of Dean, very peaceful location. Great facilities and spotlessly clean toilets and shower block. Had a problem with our caravan on the day we left and Jake, Ben, Ricky and Keri were amazing, we can’t thank them enough for their help. A real credit to the team.

Liked The pool was a definite success! Walk in no pre booking, spacious, clean 5*
The pod was lovely and clean on first walking in. Bedding and pillows were immaculate (and included).
Toilet paper, dish cloth and washing up liquid included.
The grounds are well kept.
Breakfast at forester’s was lovely 5* ( but wait was long)
Bring your own BBQ (disposable) .. advertising BBQ, but it’s just a metal stand that you are not allowed to put anything on.

Disliked The toilet in the pod seemed dirty!
It smelled of stale urine. There were stains on the walls of toothpastes from previous days! Around the bottom of the floor seemed mouldy and the toilet brush had probably cleaned up more than it wanted to chew!

BINGO ! was a disaster.. if you want to actually play bingo … stay at your pod/caravan. Kids screaming, music playing, lights off!!! Think we managed to mark 4 numbers off in half hour!

Breakfast at forester's was lovely, but the wait of about 45 minutes was too long.

You don’t have a BBQ ! Bring your own disposable.. the shop over charge.

Liked Everything about Whitemead was fantastic, the swimming pool with steam room and sauna. The cleanliness, the walks right on your doorstep. We had the best time and even stayed an extra night! Would highly recommend!

Liked Fantastic. I spent most of my time in swimming pool etc. Enjoyed Witney Houston and meal. The place has so much to offer. The Pod was so cosy. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I will be back ASAP.

For those seeking a bit of peace and quiet, there are stacks of splendid trails around the Forest of Dean to ramble or ride bikes along (and a bike hire place a few minutes’ walk away in Parkend if you need it). Should the kids demand more from their woodland outings, take them along to seek out dragons and unicorns along the themed trails at Puzzlewood, or launch themselves into the air on the ziplines and high ropes courses at Go Ape; both are 10 minutes away by car. Much of the area’s attraction is linked to its natural good looks, but there’s also manmade interest in the form of the miners’ caverns at Clearwell Caves and the puffing steam trains of the Dean Forest Railway (both 10 minutes' drive). In the unlikely event that you tire of this scenery, head west to the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for days visiting Goodrich Castle (20 minutes) and the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo (25 minutes), or canoeing from Symonds Yat (25 minutes).
