Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely small site, clean facilities, really friendly owners, games room for the teens, kettle and charging points, no check in/out times, gazebo and 2 cars are included, fire pit hire with logs, bbqs allowed. Great location for so many walks and access to Newport and Chepstow.

Disliked Next to a road but as this is a 50mph and not a junction with cars stopping and starting, you naturally block it out.
Showers are warm and clean with good pressure but they only stay on for a couple of seconds at a time which is difficult to get shampoo out of long hair!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean facilities, was lovely to have a kettle to use to make my daughter’s bottles up. Toilets and showers were immaculate and lovely and warm, and the games room was a nice addition.

Really friendly owner and liked that they took cash & card. The play equipment was in good condition and it was excellent value for money and well sign-posted.

Disliked Road noise but was aware of this when I booked so it didn’t bother me.

The taps are all on a timer which could have done with being 15-20 seconds longer to make showering a baby a bit easier 😅 But great way to save water!

Local attractions

Cyclists have easy access to the Wye Valley Greenway (20 minutes by bike), or you can up the physical ante with climbing and abseiling at waterside Symonds Yat (35 minutes). Hikers should grab their boots and head off into the Wye Valley National Landscape (15 minutes’ drive) to follow sections of the scenic Wye Valley Walk along the river banks. Kids unwilling to walk? Tempt them with colourful art installations on the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail (25 minutes), or let them have a run around in the moss-covered undergrowth at Puzzlewood (15 minutes). If little legs tire, you can all hop aboard the Forest of Dean Railway (10 minutes) to chug through the woodland by heritage train. Clearwell Caves (15 minutes) will also intrigue most children with its network of underground caverns once mined for iron ore; today a self-guided tour leads to a beautifully illuminated and ice-cold subterranean lake. Learn more about local heritage with a visit to spectacular Tintern Abbey (20 minutes), with its photogenic setting by the River Wye, or take a look around medieval Chepstow Castle (10 minutes) on its craggy hilltop.
