  • Small family-run site on an organic cattle farm
  • Adjacent to the River Severn and close to the Severn Way
  • Community-owned village pub within walking distance
Set in a perry pear orchard on an organic cattle farm: that sounds almost poetic. As are the views from the spectacularly scenic little place of West End Farm Campsite, set in the horseshoe bend of the River Severn on the edge of the peaceful Gloucestershire village of Arlingham, and adjacent to the river with easy access to the footpaths of the Severn Way. A rather smashing pub is within easy walking distance too: the Red Lion freehouse (owned by the village, hurrah) with tiptop locally sourced food, real ale and regular events like quiz nights and folk nights – all just the ticket after a peaceful pedal or serene stroll along the river paths or region's quiet flat roads…? West End Farm has a toilet block and chemical disposal. Both barbecues and campfires are allowed on site.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: A super peaceful, quiet location with large level grass sites.
Contactless site as explained on board as you enter site. Text owners as instructed but no response so not sure what instructions we would have received. All seemed self explanatory though.
Took a lovely morning dog walk along the river which is just a short stroll from the site.

Disliked: Toilets and showers were dirty with no toilet roll in ladies shower room.
Bins full.
Great bones to be a great place but sadly felt a little unloved.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Beautiful, peaceful well kept campsite. Clean facilities, everything you need for camping. Everyone is super friendly.
We read in one of the reviews about someone living on the site as if this was a problem but we pitched up next to them. There was no noise and they always said hello. We had a fantastic weekend.
We will definitely return.
Severn way is a great walk from the site as well as the canal at Frampton just 10 minute drive.

Disliked: Would have preferred a little more info regards arrival in the confirmation email but thankfully the owners explained everything over the phone.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Well maintained field, generous sized pitches and beautiful secluded location. Great pub nearby.

Disliked: No sign of the owners. Only 1 sink for washing up. Toilets quite dirty and one out of three had no toilet paper. Two showers which only worked for a minute before shutting off.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked: Small site. Flat pitch with electric. Hot water in bsthrooms/toilet. Walks from campsite. Online booking and payment.

Disliked: No hot water in washing up area. Text message to announce arrival didn’t connect. Our host was on site once or twice but didn’t say hello. Waste bins full, disappeared but not replaced.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked: Beautiful location, flat pitch, 10 minute walk to river with loads of options for longer, easy walks, will take bikes next time. 10 minutes to great local pub. New coffee shop venture just off-site, but only open Thursday to Sunday. Clean and well maintained loos/showers. Loads of wildlife, working farm with gorgeous cows / calves.

Disliked: Very noisy crows (birds, it’s not a typo). Pitch nearest loos/showers seemed to have been taken over by long-term stayer/contractor - slightly annoying as the site was just about full.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked: Great location in a beautifully kept village. Walks along the Severn towards the village in a loop. Takes about an hour to the local pub which is very welcoming and the food is amazing. The camp site is peaceful and very calming. Just remember it is a farm so noises of farm life. Cows, horses, goats, geese, chickens, wild birds, are all there to see. Facilities are minimal but all you need for a relaxing break from urban life. Lovely cafe. Will defo book again.

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

West End Farm Campsite's local village is Arlingham, also in the River Severn's horseshoe bend and just off Junction 13 of the M5. The area around the village is fab walking and cycling land, of public footpaths, riverside ambles and flat peaceful roads – all set among first-class mid-Wales scenery. (Don't know where to start? Ask at the Red Lion for details of their hare, salmon, cattle and skylark wanders.) A couple of miles from the farm is the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, running between Sharpness and the old docks of Gloucester. It's a pleasant place to while away a few meandering hours, particularly around Patch Bridge, close to the Wildfowl Reserve at Slimbridge which has the world's biggest collection of captive wildfowl. Other local options are Berkeley and the Edward Jenner Museum, where the clever chap first figured out vaccination, and Berkeley Castle, where poor old Edward 2 met his grisly end. Gloucester Cathedral is nine miles from the site; a little further afield are the Norman castle of Goodrich and the Tudor National Trust-managed house of Newark Park.
