  • Quiet Gloucestershire farm site among 64 acres of orchards
  • A 15-minute drive to Gloucester; 20 minutes to Forest of Dean
  • On the banks of the River Severn, with riverside pub 10 minutes' walk
As locations for a Gloucestershire break go, this is a particularly fine one. Broadway Farm Camping is part of a quiet sheep farm on the banks of the River Severn, with 64 fabulous acres of ancient orchards full of mature apple, plum, cherry and pear trees. All of that makes this a pretty fabulous place to spend some time – and the owners Andrew and Debra agree, so they’re doing their best to preserve the natural environment, installing wildling projects and working to conserve biodiversity and wildlife habitats on site. They’ve also signed up to the Greener Camping Club, so you’ll need to be a member to stay here. A year-long membership is automatically included in the cost of your stay, so if you're already a member make sure to tick the relevant extra box for your discount. This is a lovely area for walking, and you’ll be welcome to start your explorations with a stroll around the farm’s grounds. Beyond that you can head out onto the Severn Way for riverside rambles long or short – either way, you’ll no doubt have earned a drink at the Severn Bore Inn, a 10-minute walk from the farm. Both the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley National Landscape are a short drive away too, for more walks among splendid scenery (and yes, your dog is welcome to join you for those walks and a stay here…). Facilities on the farm are simple but nicely done – you’ll have access to a fridge-freezer, a washing machine and dryer, a compost toilet and an amenities block with two toilets, two showers and three washing-up sinks. Shops are 15 minutes’ drive away in Cinderford.

What customers say

Great, well-rated spot with spacious, private pitches in trees and orchards. Owners are friendly and helpful, facilities are clean, and free firewood is a bonus. Near the River Severn and a pub. A peaceful escape with a wild camping vibe, despite some road noise.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We loved broadway farm so much last month we came back. Perfect no frills site, but has the essentials you want of clean showers, toilets, washing up area with all the bits and hot water. Portaloos are exactly how you’d expect them to be but I always appreciate when you need them in a pinch.
The site itself is beautiful, lovely wild orchard style which makes each pitch site feel private in its own way and being able to pick some plums this weekend was lovely. Fire pits and wood available to help yourself is always a welcomed bonus.
Andrew and Deborah are lovely and we enjoyed having a chat, their friendliness really gives your stay that warming personal touch.
We will absolutely be back maybe not this year now but we are already looking at dates to come back next year.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Hot water for showers was plentiful, site is quiet despite being so close to the main road.

Disliked Only one area to charge up your electrics gadgets and its a very long field/orchard, could do with more charging ports perhaps halfway down the field. Suggest getting a solar powered charging box for near the portable loos

Liked Loved the site, quite, nature all around.
Small charging area, washing space with washing up liquid provided and toilet roll.
Fire pits and wood provided which is amazing. Will defo return.

Disliked No pitch allocation so we ended up with 3 tents on another pitch across from us which made us feel a little penned it
Host was apologetic and it new to the camp host world and I'm sure will learn along the way.

From the manager: Hi Criste and thanks for the review. Apologies again for bad campers opposite. I learned a valuable lesson that night. They were "camp and dash" Turned up late, caused havoc all night and did a runner the next morning without paying. I had never imagined anyone would do such a thing, apparently happen a lot. Wont be happening here again!"
Hope to see you again next year.
Many thanks Andrew and Debra

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We could not have asked for a better site to test our roof tent for the first time, in fact it may spoil all future sites for us in comparison! On arrival Andrew, the owner, gave us a bit of info about the site and let us choose our pitch. We went quite far down the field and enjoyed two days of undisturbed peaceful relaxation.

The pitches are a fantastic size and well spaced from each other so you never feel overlooked. There are all the amenities you need, including showers, a fridge/freezer and a device charging station near the entrance to the camping area. There are also portaloos and a water spot about halfway up, so if camped further down you don't have to walk all the way back to the main facilities, which was very useful. We loved the fire pits and were amazed that the wood was free. They even have some handy wheelbarrows to use to get the wood back to your tent.

As we were there only a few days we did not explore the wider area other than a walk to the Severn Bore pub along the the river. A beautiful walk, with sheep for company, and great pub food with a friendly welcome at the end of it.

Unfortunately on our last day we discovered we had a flat car battery. Andrew was a star, bringing his tractor up to try and jump start it, and then taking it away to charge it for us when that didn't work, all with a smile. He got us safely on our way home for which we are very grateful.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Really lovely campsite, there is plenty of space and the camping spots are huge.

The toilets and showers are basic, but absolutely adequate and clean. The farm is really beautiful, the fields are full of fruit trees and mistletoe everywhere…it’s really close to the river Severn… so great for walking or running along the river. No swimming or kayaking though, it’s pretty treacherous and more like the ocean.

The fire pit and fire wood are free, you just help yourself.

Andrew the owner is a lovely and helpful guy.

Disliked I went with my teenage daughter and she found the campsite too quiet. There’s no local shops or towns close by that are within walking distance. We didn’t fancy the local pu. The Severn Bore pub has definitely seen better days. We were in a camper, so it was a little more tricky just to head out for the day.

From the manager: Thanks Racheal for the review and I absolutely love the photos.
Hopefully we will see you again, your daughter must bring her friends next time.

Local attractions

A walk along the Severn Way is a must, of course – especially if you happen to be here around the time of the Severn Bore, an intriguing natural tidal surge that also attracts surfers and kayakers keen to try something a bit different. There are also loads of great walks and things to see over in the Wye Valley National Landscape – a few favourites are Clearwell Caves (half an hour), Puzzle Wood (half an hour) and Tintern Abbey (45 minutes). You may also like to try canoeing from Symonds Yat (35 minutes) or visiting the Forest of Dean (20 minutes) for bike rides, a Go Ape course and a colourful sculpture trail. Heading the other way, you could spend some time in Gloucester (15 minutes), visiting the cathedral and National Waterways Museum or joining spooky tours at Gloucester Prison Events. A little way outside the city, there are more attractions like the Jet Age Museum (20 minutes) and Painswick Rococo Garden (25 minutes).
