  • Adults-only park a couple of minutes' drive from the M5
  • Use as an overnight stopover or as a base for Cheltenham or Gloucester
  • Landscaped with mature shrubs, hedges and trees
Apart from a possible pitch on a tower block in the middle of a city, Briarfields Touring Park might be the most ‘leave your car at home’ site we’ve seen yet. Ditch the diesel guzzler or leave the motorhome on site and hitch a ride on one of the regular buses that pass right outside, leading to days’ worth of days out at Cheltenham (two miles away), Gloucester (six miles), Oxford, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. And if you’re getting around under your own steam, the friendly family team at Briarfields can pick you up from local public transport when you arrive. Even on your own feet you’ll reach most of what you need quickly from the park: a pub and a newsagent are within a few minutes’ walk; an Indian restaurant, KFC and supermarket less than 15 minutes – and a caravan sales and spares dealership is a mile and a half away, just in case. Although Briarfields is only a couple of minutes from the M5 (it’s often used by guests on their way north or south as an overnight stopover), it’s been rather cleverly designed so you can think you’re slap bang in the middle of the countryside: the landscaped and the accommodation areas are edged throughout with mature shrubs, hedges and trees. Amenities are equally well looked after: the centrally placed amenities block is cleaned twice a day and has free hot showers for ladies, gents and disabled guests. Swing into reception when you arrive at Briarfields for reams of info, leaflets and maps on the many (many) things to do a bus ride away: buses run every ten minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening to both Cheltenham and Gloucester, and another service to Oxford will give explorers about six hours in the city before heading back to Cheltenham. Briarfields is open all year round and is dog-friendly.

What customers say

Briarfields is a spick-and-span, adult-only park with great private pitches and top-notch loos. Easy M5 access and buses to town are a bonus. Some mention road noise, but most say it's not a bother. Staff are ace, good for dog walks. Campers rave about this spot and plan to be back!

From the manager: Thank you so much for your fantastic review.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and found Briarfields so clean, tidy and easy to find. Being just a few minutes from the M5 certainly makes us a convenient stopover, as well as a great base for staying a little longer and exploring Cheltenham, Gloucester and the Cotswolds.

We're especially pleased there was nothing at all to dislike and, best of all, that you'll definitely use the site again that's the biggest compliment we could ask for.

Thank you for your recommendation and for taking the time to leave your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back to Briarfields very soon!

Everything was great apart from the push button showers.

The Beeches fully-serviced grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Pitches nicely spaced. Facilities lovely and clean and in excellent order. Friendly greeting on arrival, friendly staff throughout our stay. It's also in a great location, with easy access to both Cheltenham and Gloucester. Shops and eateries also close by, what more could you want?

Disliked A pet hate of mine is push button showers, they are so annoying, I can never understand why they exist. I also find them difficult to operate.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely and thoughtful review, Tim.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay on The Beeches and appreciated the spacious pitches, our clean and well-maintained facilities and, most importantly, the friendly welcome and service from our team throughout your stay.

It's also great to know our location worked so well for you, with Cheltenham and Gloucester both within easy reach and plenty of shops and places to eat nearby.

We completely appreciate your comments about the push-button showers, we know they're one of those things people tend to either not mind at all or have firmly on their list of pet hates! We're sorry you found them particularly difficult to operate, and we'll certainly keep your feedback in mind as we continue to upgrade and improve our facilities.

Your private comments genuinely meant a great deal to us. We put an enormous amount of care into Briarfields, so it's wonderful when a guest notices that and takes the time to say so.

Thank you again for your recommendation and for choosing to stay with us. We're delighted you had such a lovely visit and hope to welcome you back to Briarfields again in the future.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Very nice pleasent stay one night

Disliked Pitch was on a incline used levels but still on incline pitch number 11

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review.

We're delighted to hear you had a pleasant stay with us, enjoyed our clean facilities and, most importantly, would choose to stay at Briarfields again.

We're sorry you had difficulty getting completely level on pitch 11, even with your levelling blocks. Thank you for mentioning the specific pitch number, that's really helpful, and we'll take a look at it as part of our ongoing pitch maintenance.

If you visit us again, please do let us know your preference for a particularly level pitch when booking and, subject to availability, we'll always do our best to accommodate you.

Thank you again for your recommendation. We hope your next visit might be for a little longer than one night, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Briarfields.

A busy roundabout near to the site but site owners can't help that.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Ideally situated clean and tidy site close to both Cheltenham and Gloucester. Supermarket and shops within 10 min walk . Bus stop opposite. Information provided on location and local area must do,s .

Disliked Pitch had quite a slope difficult to get caravan level which also made the steps difficult to get level and safe.

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review, Paul.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and found Briarfields clean, tidy and so conveniently located for exploring both Cheltenham and Gloucester. It's also great to know you found the local information we provide useful, we put a lot of thought into helping guests make the most of their time in the area.

We're sorry, however, that you found your particular pitch difficult to level on. Although the majority of our pitches are relatively level, there are a few where levelling blocks may be needed depending on the length and setup of the unit. We completely appreciate your point regarding the caravan steps too, as being able to position these safely is important.

If you're ever having difficulty getting comfortably level, please do come and have a chat with us at reception. Where availability allows, we'll always do our best to help or look at alternative options.

We're really pleased that despite this you would recommend Briarfields and visit us again. Thank you for your helpful feedback, Paul, and we hope to welcome you back for another stay in the future.

The Beeches fully-serviced grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked We stayed in our motorhome on a fully serviced pitch. We were close to the facilities which were clean and well presented. Plenty of showers and toilets. The site was also clean and well thought out. The staff were lovely- very helpful and accommodating. The dog exercise area was a good size.
Brilliant bus service to Cheltenham- also to Gloucester. There are plenty of walks which reception gave us a map for. Lots of things to do in the area. Asda and Lidls are nearby as well.
We have booked again for December.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay on one of our fully serviced Beeches pitches and found the park, facilities and layout so well maintained. It's also lovely to hear you found our team friendly, helpful and accommodating, we'll be sure to pass your kind comments on to everyone.

We're pleased your dog enjoyed Dorothy's Dog Field and that you made good use of the local walking routes. Having the regular buses to both Cheltenham and Gloucester right outside the park, along with supermarkets nearby, certainly makes it easy to leave the motorhome pitched up and explore.

Best of all, we're absolutely delighted to hear you've already booked to come back in December! Thank you for your recommendation and for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Briarfields for your winter visit, hopefully with a little festive sparkle around the park by then!

Camping pod (double)

Liked The glamping pod was so comfortable and had everything (and more!) I needed. Loved the private outside space too. My dog also enjoyed the dog walking field.

I felt very safe as a female solo traveller and would highly recommend to others!

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Daniel.

We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay in one of our glamping pods and found it so comfortable and well equipped. It's lovely to know you enjoyed having your own private outside space too and we're very pleased your four-legged companion gave Dorothy's Dog Field the seal of approval!

We're especially pleased to hear that you felt safe and comfortable staying with us as a solo female traveller. Creating a friendly, welcoming and secure environment for all our guests is incredibly important to us, so that really does mean a great deal.

Thank you for recommending Briarfields and for taking the time to share your experience. We hope to welcome you and your dog back for another relaxing stay very soon.

Best Wishes,
The Briarfields Team

Local attractions

Well. Where do we start? At least a day in Cheltenham first, we think – more if you’re coming to have a flutter at the racecourse just four miles away or jazzing it up at one of the many festivals. Catch the bus early to take in as much as poss: a morning coveting the art, furniture, crafts and jewellery at Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, many created by Cotswold craftspeople inspired by William Morris, should build up an appetite for lunch and an afternoon of shopping around The Brewery, Bath Road and in the well-lined High Street. Harry Potter fans and the history-inclined will likely want an hour or two at medieval Gloucester Cathedral, used in the first and second films (see if you recognise the Cloisters). Away from Hogwarts, the cathedral has an award-winning exhibition centre, exhibitions and guided tours, and regular events and concerts including The Three Choirs Festival, one of the oldest classical choral music festivals in the world. The Gloucester Docks and award-winning Waterways Museum is also a good afternoon out for heritage fans, while the more modern can find plenty to occupy them at the waterside retail park Gloucester Quays. Plunge into the countryside next for a couple of days in the Cotswolds, where you’ll find acres of things to do whatever your inclination such as punting around local villages like Chipping Camden and Bourton-on-the-Water, or visiting the many museums ranging from Roman to motoring times. Wildlife options abound too, particularly for birders, with the Cotswold Falconry Centre at the Batsford Arboretum, geese and swans at Slimbridge Wetland Centre, and Birdland Park and Gardens in Bourton-on-the-Water where twitchers can see rare birds from around the world, including England’s only group of king penguins. Finally, take a day or two in the ancient Forest of Dean (Harry Potter and co ended up here too), one of the oldest woodlands in the country, to go underground at the old mines of the Clearwell Caves, hire a bike to hit the forest tracks, or, more relaxingly, take the four and a half mile trip from Lydney to Parkend on the Dean Forest Railway.
