Well-maintained gardens

  • Spacious and dog-friendly 12-acre site in the Derbyshire Dales
  • A 15-minute drive to Ashbourne; 40 minutes to Chatsworth Estate
  • Shop and fishing ponds on site
Grab your walking boots, your fishing kit and your dog and get set for some relaxing time in the Derbyshire Dales at Blackbrook Lodge Camping and Caravanning, between the villages of Turnditch and Brailsford. This 12-acre site is well placed for walks and other outdoor activities – the edge of the Peak District National Park is about 20 minutes’ drive away, you can pick up the traffic-free Tissington Trail about 15 minutes away and there’s a good collection of watersports to be had at Carsington Water, 10 minutes away. And the fishing? Well, that’s right there where you’re staying – this site has both a main fishing lake and two ponds filled with carp for lazy days by the water. Away from the ponds, the main camping field is set back from the road and has space for kids to run around freely. Other facilities on site include a small shop for essentials, a washing-up area, toilets and hot showers that are available 24 hours a day. There are several pubs and restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive to keep the tribe fed, or you’re welcome to bring along a barbecue. If you go for the latter option, there’s a farm shop about 10 minutes’ drive away for delicious local goodies, and it’s the same distance to a supermarket for any other essentials. Please note that chocks or levellers may be needed.

What customers say

A friendly, neat campsite with roomy spots, clean loos, and a handy shop. Folks liked the quiet vibe, pretty fishing dams and helpful staff. Despite a few wanting shower block updates and noting sloping pitches, most loved it and want to come back.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked What a delightful little site. Lovely and peaceful. Little shop is well stocked. Shower and toilet facilities clean and pleasant. Really nice for a weekend getaway.

Disliked Not so much a dislike, just some observations:
- You will need leveling ramps as the pitches are quite slanted. Some of the other vans were having to use several bits of wood to keep level
- Not much to do on site, but then it doesn't claim to be an entertainment venue. Just bring plenty to do
- Bins and elsan were hard to find and not clearly signposted

Duck camping pod (double)

Liked Great sized little pod for 2 (+small dog!) and well equipped with amenities, including a great camping table and chairs to sit outside and enjoy looking over the fishing pond. Really accommodating hosts for us and our friends over the weekend. The site had clear and fair rules, a brilliant little shop and clean facilities for showering and toilets.

Disliked Hard to find anything we disliked, it seems too strong a word - if I was forced to suggest improvements I would say some of the cleanliness of the pod could have improved (around the window seemed a bit dirty but of no major concern) and the fire pit outside of our pod had not been cleared before our arrival from previous use. There was discarded half-burned takeaway chips in there, not just ashes of burned wood and charcoal.

Blue Lodge 2 bedroom cabin

Liked It's a beautiful little piece heaven. We stayed in the Blue Lodge. This was perfect for us. My self and my wife wanted somewhere that was an escape from the hustle and busell of modern life.I have to add in my review that I personally don't and have never been a person who goes fishing but this site is absolutely perfect for someone who loves fishing. For us though it's a beautiful place the lodge is lovely. The site is very peaceful and quiet and if that's what you're looking for well this is it. The staff are brilliant and do a fantastic job of looking after their guests. My wife has as pointed out when we took a walk around the lake that this place is just perfect for someone who as a dog. Anyway we enjoyed our stay in the lodge it's very well equipped and we will definitely will come back again.

Disliked For us the electric gate on the site was very tricky as we didn't know how to get in and out of the site and was stuck for quite a while at one point. Anyway when we come again we have now been shown how to get in and out so we can now get on and off the site ok. At least it's a very secure site.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Friendly and amenable, large pitch (ramps required), in quiet rural location little shop for emergency supplies, continuous running showers not push button. Nice walk of about 1.5/2 miles across fields to local pub that served lovely food.

Disliked Unfortunately closest bus stop quite a walk, about a mile, so had to drive off site or taxi to go sight seeing.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Friendly welcome and an easy site to navigate. Modern facilities. Little shop on site.

Disliked Where we were pitched was right by a main road, although it wasn't too noisy. Walk to facilities was right to the bottom of the site, in reality about a 2 min walk.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blackbrook Lodge! The campsite is wonderfully quiet and kept impeccably clean, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The friendly and polite staff went above and beyond, always ready to assist with any questions we had.

The views were simply amazing, adding to the overall charm of the location. The pitches were a great size, providing ample space for our family. Being close to the shop was a convenient bonus, making it easy to grab any essentials.

One of our favorite features was the fabulous little fishing pond. It was a fun activity for everyone and added a unique touch to our getaway. Overall, Blackbrook Lodge exceeded our expectations, and we can't wait to return!

Disliked While our experience at Blackbrook Lodge was largely positive, there were a few aspects that could use improvement. One notable issue was the lack of storage for clothes in the showers, making it inconvenient to keep our belongings organized while showering. Additionally, the absence of a disabled shower chair could be a concern for those who need it.

Another inconvenience was the need for an in-ground area to empty waste water from the caravan. The height made it difficult to lift the heavy water hog, and having a designated spot would greatly enhance the experience for campers. Addressing these issues would certainly improve the overall functionality of the facilities.

A visit to the Chatsworth Estate (40 minutes) is a must – for the farm shop, adventure playground and farmyard as much as the house and gardens themselves – and the nearby Kedleston Hall National Trust estate (10 minutes) is another spot that’s worth a visit.
