  • Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Heights of Abraham 15 minutes’ drive
  • Fully fitted kitchens; Crich shops and restaurants 15 minutes’ walk
With gorgeous countryside views, country walks right from your door and Derbyshire landmarks like Crich Memorial Tower and the National Tramway Museum both five minutes’ drive away, a glamping stay at Saints Meadow puts you in pole position for exploring the Peak District National Park. Fully heated and sleeping up to four guests in a combination of double and sofa beds, the site’s natty wooden cabins have everything you need: shower rooms, fully fitted kitchens with utensils for rustling up simple camping meals, dining tables for family suppers, and cosy sofas to snuggle up on for leisurely relaxation. All towels and bed linen are provided too, so all you need to pack is your clothes and food. Talking of food, if you fancy a day off cooking at any time, amble down to Crich village (15 minutes’ stroll) to pick up artisan breads and takeaway pizzas from the local bakery, or stop by the Indian restaurant for a slap-up spicy feast. Need an extra incentive? All profits from this glampsite go to a youth charity providing residential retreats and outreach services for thousands of young people each year.

St Joseph's 1 bedroom cabin

Liked: This place is stunning, I honestly cannot rate it highly enough! Booked a cabin for myself and a friend for 2 nights for my birthday not really taking much notice what it was like/what to expect, I just wanted to get away somewhere for a few days. What can I say.....wow! Greeted with a welcome note from the owners, the cabin was lit with fairy lights and had balloons and birthday banners. There was a little goodie bag for my dog which had gravy bones, poo bags and a ball in. The cabin was spotless. The attention to detail and the finish on the cabins is stunning. Everything is provided, all you need to do is turn up! They are warm and cosy, sofa and bed are comfortable, what more can I say! We will be back! 5*

St Joseph's 1 bedroom cabin

Liked: A beautiful, tranquil and unique place. Spacious, very clean..spotless! We stayed in St Joseph's cabin and it was cosy, comfortable and warm. We brought an electric heater but didn't use it as the radiators were great. We brought a torch but not required as lighting adequate outside the cabin. Bedding, towels and blankets clean and fresh. We had a dog and you couldn't smell previous pets, just fresh flowers and fragrant air freshner. The location is fantastic and the information pack. We did the heritage trail advised in Crich. Tramway is within walking distance or 2 mins in car. Black Swan is nice but food at the Derbyshire in Belper is fab! Loads of lovely villages, Peaks, National Trusts, Heights of Abraham, Alton Towers. We went to Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield. We will be recommending to others and returning. Great WiFi.

Disliked: Maybe a desk mirror for hair-drying/make-up as need extension if using mirror behind bathroom door or a shaving mirror above sink for husband. Maybe some books and board games.

Local attractions

Young kids with you? Off you go to Gulliver’s Kingdom (15 minutes’ drive) for a day of riding on log flumes, following dinosaur trails and riding chairlifts high above the Derwent Valley. Older offspring will likely also appreciate the cable-car ride up to the Heights of Abraham (also 15 minutes) for illuminated walks through subterranean caverns and woodland hikes. The pretty town of Matlock Bath (15 minutes) stands by the River Derwent and pulls in the crowds for its indie shops, arcade games at Derwent Amusement Centre, and Matlock Bath Aquarium and Exhibitions, an eccentric Victorian-era museum with a hall of mirrors, displays of fossils and live carp swimming in thermal pools. If you’re keen to strike out on two feet, climb up to the Black Rocks craggy outcrop (15 minutes) for views over Cromford Moor, and set off on the Monsal Trail along a former railway line from Bakewell (half an hour). Energetic souls can walk sections of the spectacular High Peak Trail, accessed from High Peak Junction (15 minutes) and leading through the Derbyshire Dales.
