What customers say
A working farm site with awesome views, brilliant for hikers and cyclists. Owners are lekker friendly, vibe is chilled, and it's great value. Facilities are basic but clean. Food on-site is a winner. Some find it a bit basic, but most dig the no-fuss approach and will be back. Busy times can get noisy and facilities stretched.

It was a nice break but others peoples dogs had us on edge.
Non-electric grass pitch
Liked Easy walks
The pizza van
The breakfast sandwich van
Disliked We didn’t check in for 5 hours as we didn’t know we had to go to the farm house to tell them we had arrived.
Dogs running around off the lead. It states clearly that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times but some people don’t care. My dog is reactive and doesn’t like other dogs. It makes me weary of booking again because the owners didn’t seem to be checking on guests

Pukka Pitch with pizza!
Non-electric grass pitch
Liked Absolute pleasure of a campsite. Perfectly located in the shadow of Mamtor. Exactly one mile to the Trig (which makes a perfect spot to watch the sun go down)
Huge trees to camp under which made a highly welcome relief from the heatwave.
It’s windy (obvs as it’s adjacent to Windy Knoll) so prepare ahead of pitching. Pizza on a Saturday (yum yum). Lovely campsite manager and fresh eggs for breakfast. As its remote limited signal which made a wonderful and unexpected detox Would recommend and stay again.
Disliked Shower is great. £1.00 for three minutes. Just be prepared to wait for a moment. - take a cuppa and relax.

Great location, but poor facilities and an unwelcoming experience.
Non-electric grass pitch
Liked The campsite is in a fantastic location for walking, particularly if you’re planning to hike Mam Tor and the surrounding area. The camping field was relatively level, making pitching straightforward, and despite being close to the road there was virtually no road noise, making for peaceful nights.
Disliked Unfortunately, the positives were outweighed by several significant issues.
The entrance and exit are poorly designed. On arrival you’re faced with a closed gate immediately off a fast road, meaning you have to stop while partially obstructing the carriageway to open it. This is awkward enough with a camping trailer and would be even worse with a caravan. Leaving is no better, as you have to pull onto the opposite verge to close the gate behind you. In my opinion this is a genuine safety hazard.
The welcome was disappointing. After ringing the bell at the farmhouse I felt more like an inconvenience than a paying guest. I was simply asked a few brief questions and told to pitch in the field. There was no explanation of where to find drinking water, that the showers require £1 coins, or reminders about logs for sale or the food van opening times. A basic site introduction would have made a much better first impression.
The toilet and shower facilities are wholly inadequate for the number of campers. The men’s toilets consist of just two cubicles, which regularly resulted in queues of five or six people throughout the day. They also had a persistent unpleasant smell.
The men’s shower situation is even worse. There is only one shower, costing £1 for three minutes. The shower block smelled unpleasant, felt very basic and there is no warning before the water cuts off. Long queues formed throughout the day, not just at the usual morning and evening peak times. I’ve camped on much larger sites with far better facilities and much shorter waits.
One thing prospective visitors should be aware of is the farm’s terrier, which is allowed to roam freely around the campsite all day. It repeatedly ran into campers’ pitches, approached nervous children and triggered reactions from other dogs. If you’re camping with a nervous dog or children who are uncomfortable around dogs, this may not be the right site for you.
Finally, I don’t think the campsite offers good value for money. I’ve paid similar prices at campsites less than five miles away with significantly better facilities and service. It feels like you’re paying a premium simply for being close to Mam Tor rather than for the overall camping experience.

Great location, gate to main road unmanageable with cows when on own.
Non-electric grass pitch
Liked This site is in a fabulous location with some beautiful views and the sound of sheep in the background. I didn’t use the facilities except to fill up with water so can’t really comment on those.
The site is on a slope but level spaces can be found around the edges if not busy.
Disliked As a solo traveller the gate at the entrance from the road is a pain. Exiting in the morning there were several cows around a few metres away who did look disinterested but when I opened the gate they decided to come and look so getting out was impossible. As you have to either stick out in the narrow road or cross the road to park and then go back to shut the gate (and either way the gate is open whilst you’re in your van or trying to get out of it quickly), the potential for escaping cows is huge. I only managed it because the farmer turned up and shooed the cows all back into the field. Would a cattle grid not work? They work everywhere else and if you have to have a gate then one set in from the road even a few metres would give us a chance.
