  • Family-run campsite on a dairy farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Access to Lathkill Dale directly from the site
  • Woodfired pizzas and ice cream sold on site
When you’re keen to get out exploring the Derbyshire Dales, you can’t get much closer to them than Haddon Grove Farm Campsite. This welcoming, family-run caravan and camping site has direct access to spectacular Lathkill Dale from the pitches. Located on a dog-friendly working dairy farm – you are welcome to meet the cows, horses and chickens – with views to the hills and dales of the Peak District National Park, the site was established in the early 1950s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. There are separate fields for family use – with play areas and rope swings – and others for group bookings, ensuring nobody gets disturbed on site. Facilities run to a shower block and wash room, and as barbecues are allowed by the pitches in the camping fields (source any foodie bits in the pretty town of Bakewell, 10 minutes’ drive), firepits can be hired on site. Logs are sold from the small on-site shop, which – more importantly for the kids – also stocks tasty ice cream from a local farm. The site also sells woodfired pizzas, which should be handy if you fancy eating something more substantial.

What customers say

Large farm campsite with great Peak District views & Lathkill Dale access. Praised for spacious pitches, friendly owners, clean facilities (incl. new showers). Food vans & shop a hit. Some found facilities a walk, with occasional noise, but highly recommended for relaxed vibe & value.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely peaceful site. The shower and toilet facilities were like new.

We only stayed as a last minute stop over as a break on a long journey so didn’t get chance to explore or see anything else.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It is a huge campsite! I hadn't appreciated when I booked that is also had such fantastic views. If you find the right spot you can watch the sun rise and set from the comfort of your tent. The food and drink vendors are a nice touch on a Friday and Saturday night. The toilet blocks are quite new and look great when clean. The owners are absolutely lovely and friendly. The shop is small but has the essentials....including tent pegs when you forget all of your own..!!!

Disliked When we arrived the whole site was really busy. That is great as it adds to the atmosphere but it also means that the toilets and showers struggle to cope, especially when it seems some people aren't very respectful or clean.

The site is absolutely massive. Some people then drive to the toilets rather than walk. The site bins and recycling are a long way from the main fields which seems to lead to some people littering. It wasn't a messy site at all but having something a bit more central would be great.

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Massive, relaxed site with gorgeous views. Nice, new facilities that are sparkling clean and run with hot water. Segregated waste, including food although a lot of people couldn't read the signs! Friendly owners who are cheery and helpful, and staff a small shop with some produce, wood etc.
Immediate walking access into Lathkill Dale which is a lovely walk of however long you choose.

Disliked Not much. Some of the land is quite sloped and exposed, but not a major problem.

Liked Lots of space. So many different fields to choose from.
Lovely toilets and showers

Disliked Not the campsites fault but why do some people think it’s ok to blast their music out for everyone in the field to hear? I don’t get this mindset of coming to the peace of the countryside to do this. It’s so selfish!

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely warm welcome from the owner. The toilets were clean considering the amount of use they got. It was lovely having the wood fire Pizzas and bar on site. Breakfast was also available in the morning. Lovely site would return for another visit.

Non-electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked A great site, level gravel pitches with great views. New shower and toilet blocks kept very clean, and within close walking distance, and also communal dish washing facilities. There was a mobile bar, pizza oven, and a little retro caravan selling food and breakfasts, a lovely touch for the summer months. The family who own this site have made so many great improvements, and are so welcoming and friendly, and go out of their way to make this a truly great experience and stay for their visitors. This is fast becoming a favourite place to stay when in the peak district, and I would thoroughly recommend.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great washing facilities and although they were quite small we never had to queue. Fire pits rental for £10 for your entire stay and wood and kindling for £15 a bag that will go all evening.
There was a tiny food truck and pizza truck on site. They tell you to order pizza to avoid disappointment and they weren’t exaggerating. Opens at 5pm and when we got to it at 6.05pm they were already fully sold out but the other truck does gyros and had plenty. They also do breakfast.
You can pitch anywhere meaning groups can face any way and create a great camp space.

Local attractions

Scenic walks are to be had along the namesake river in Lathkill Dale, where you can stride out towards Lathkill Head Cave (an hour and 20 minutes’ walk) or marvel at the clear springs at The Blue Waters near the peaceful village of Over Haddon (35 minutes). For a slightly longer ramble, Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (90 minutes) reward with prehistoric monuments and ancient burial mounds. Combine your stroll around the verdant grounds at Chatsworth House with a guided tour of the mansion’s ornate rooms packed with priceless antiques, or take in the Elizabethan Walled Gardens at Haddon Hall (both 20 minutes’ drive) after you’ve admired the tapestry collection and medieval chapel. For an insight into Peak District heritage, visit the bijou Eyam Museum (also 20 minutes) in the famed ‘plague village’ to learn the story of the Bubonic Plague of 1346–52, or have a wander around the deserted remains of Magpie Mine (five minutes’ drive), which was the last working lead mine in Derbyshire and closed in 1958.
