When you’re looking for a slice of country living under canvas, but equally well can’t face pottering down too many country lanes, Ellis’ Hill Farm Campsite will suit you very well. Just double check the directions on your way there, as satnav may direct you through a ford and you don’t want to end up with a car issue.
 At 10 minutes’ drive from Winnersh in Berkshire, this peaceful farm site is close to several major road networks. Even better news – for the kids if not your pocket – it’s within half an hour by car of family attractions like Legoland Windsor Resort and Beale Wildlife Park. Sheltered by tall trees, the camping field is mostly level with a few undulations. You’ll need sturdy footwear, and as it’s only mown once a year, if you’re a repeat visitor you’ll see how the meadow grows through the seasons. Also be aware that there’s no electricity to hand, so bring torches for wandering around your pitch after dark.
 The surrounding woodland is a fascinating habitat for wildlife. Don’t be surprised if you encounter the odd deer or sneaky fox – just please make sure your food is stored away from all animal foragers. Barbecues are allowed on site, but of course you can also sneak off to the two local pubs (both around five minutes’ drive) for a pint and helpings of comfort food. Dogs are welcome on site when kept on a lead at all times.

A basic campsite with welcoming owners. Enjoy peace, nature, big pitches & wildlife. Facilities are clean but simple (no showers). Expect farm sounds & slightly tricky access, but it's great value – many will be back!

Liked The people running the campsite are lovely, and very understanding if you get stuck and arrive late. Excellent bacon rolls available from the shop/cafe too.

Liked A lovely quiet site, plenty of space, breakfast rolls were great, easy walk to a ford, walks in woods, very close (by car) to a supermarket and Winnersh train station but felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. The owners were friendly and helpful.The facilities are basic but I think this is reflected in the price which is really good compared to most sites that charge per person.

Disliked Taking rubbish and recycling home, but it made us think how much we produce so it was a good thing really.

Liked Lovely property, with lovely people. Love the freedom of the campsite. Lots of nice walks, including to the pub!

Disliked Wished there were showers available, however you are informed in advance that there aren't any :)

Liked It's a grassy field of which you could pitch your tent. Toilet was basic but clean and usable.

Disliked The stupid bloody animal that decided to scream for hours 😂

Liked Loved our stay here. Big area to camp so lots of space and a really nice atmosphere. Toilets were always spotless and never needed to wait. Was a solo female with my son and felt very safe.

Disliked I did find it a bit hard to locate couldn't see the campsite name.

Please use Gravelpit Hill Lane to access the site. Satnav devices often suggest Ellis’ Hill as the best route, but there is a ford that can be quite deep. The kids will be pestering you for their day on the water rides, gentle rollercoasters and splash parks at Legoland Windsor Resort (half an hour’s drive), where they can also build their own Lego Ferrari. Once that’s done, no doubt Thorpe Park (45 minutes) and all its adrenaline-inducing thrill rides will be on their agenda too.
