Robert & Julie are amazing hosts. Friendly, super helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The facilities are immaculately clean and the kids have had the best time here. We normally book somewhere else locally however we now have a new favourite camp site.

We liked everything about this campsite. The site is very family friendly but with plenty of space so it’s still peaceful. The surroundings are beautiful, with a forest backdrop to the north and beautiful river walk to the south. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The site is attractive with quite a few separate areas, it’s well kept with plenty of toilets and showers and clean running water. There is a place to sit and use Wi-Fi if you need it and an honesty shop which is a lovely touch. There’s a play area for the kids where our daughters loved playing and making friends. There’s a small village very nearby with two lovely pubs that serve good food and beer. We visited the lakes quite a few times during our stay and the site served as a good base from where we could drive to most locations in a reasonable time.

Mains Farm is a lovely site, spread out over several fields in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside. The showers and toilet facilities are housed in an old barn and add to the quaintness of the site. The owners are smashing and really friendly. All the pitches appear to have EHU and ours, on the Meadow Field, was no exception. The views across the valley from our pitch were lovely and there are several opportunities to walk right from the farm itself. the site is definitely family friendly, with a dedicated play area a short distance from the camping fields themselves, allowing privacy for both parties! Wi-Fi is available on the site, but only in a dedicated part of the old farm buildings - not a bad thing, to be honest!

There are two pubs in Kirkoswald, The Crown and the Featherstone Arms, about 20 minutes walk along the road from Mains Farm. We visited the Featherstone Arms on the Thursday evening and found pie night! Really worth the effort...but pre-book as it gets really busy!

    Disliked:

We only had one issue with our stay at Mains Farm and that was nothing at all to do with the site or the owners, but everything to do with a really noisy group of "Geordies" who turned up in the next field to us on the Friday afternoon and basically didn't shut up until after 01:00 on the Saturday morning. The site does have a quiet period from 23:00 onwards, but they didn't seen to care about this. We cut our stay short because of their behaviour - the owner was really upset about this behaviour and was going to deal with it!

Beautiful location. Beautiful site. Spacious pitches, you’re not crammed in at all. Very friendly, chatty and helpful owners and the other campers we met were very friendly too. Play park for kids, rope swing by river was a hit. The honesty shop is great too, fresh baked goodies! Lots of interesting places to visit nearby, ideal for walkers, lacys caves is top of the list, it’s quite a walk but definitely worth it! Pubs in nearby village are spot on. We only stayed for one night as a stopover when traveling from west coast to east coast but we will definitely be back for a longer stay. This site is a true hidden gem.
