Route directions

From the I-15, take the Main Street exit in Hesperia. Drive for approximately seven miles east, then turn left at Rock Springs Road. Continue for three miles, passing the four-way stop at Kiowa until you reach Bowen Ranch Road. Turn right and head south down Bowen Ranch Road for 5.7 miles. The park is located six miles off the paved road, but a four-wheel drive is not necessary. Please note that phone data is lost for the last five miles of driving, so it's a good idea to download directions and a map before setting out.

Please note: All distances on this page are calculated "as the crow flies" - please check actual distance depending on your mode of travel using the Get directions button above.

Local attractions

If such a big expanse of desert trails gets you itching to jump on a dirt bike, there are designated routes to keep you happy all day long. If you prefer taking in the views at a slower pace, search the horseback riding options that can be arranged from Hesperia (35 minutes’ drive) or at ranches nearby. The California Route 66 Museum in Victorville (40 minutes) is a good pitstop for finding out all about the US’s most famous highway. Or hang out high above the canyons at ziplining centers in the San Gabriel Mountains (an hour and 10 minutes) or Skyforest (an hour and 15 minutes). Animal enthusiasts keen to get up close and personal with the wildlife can take the 50-minute trip to Wolf Mountain Sanctuary in Lucerne Valley or visit Wildhaven Ranch, near Lake Arrowhead (an hour and a half) where you’ll need to pre-book onto one of their tours to be guided round this rehabilitation sanctuary for bears, birds and other indigenous beasts.
