  • Adults-only simple sites over 40 acres of private land in Tennessee
  • A 45-minute drive to Discovery Park of America
  • Two-acre pond and open-air pool at the campground; dogs welcome
Guests should be in for a proper getaway at Getaway Campground – this Tennessee campground spreads over 40 acres of peaceful and private land where you can have a truly secluded stay in an adult-only environment. There’s a lot of space here but you won’t have to share it with a lot of people, as there’s only a limited number of guests here at any time. What you will find, however, is that you’ll share the place with birds galore – geese, herons, woodpeckers and hawks are among the wildlife that either lives here or passes by frequently. Everything here is nicely safe and secure, with a code on the gate given out ahead of guests’ arrival. And that makes this a fabulous place to relax and unwind – perhaps taking a stroll around the two-acre country pond, having a swim in the open-air pool or starting up a barbecue or campfire to cook some dinner as the sun goes down. You’ll be allowed to bring your dog along too, so they can join you on walks in the surrounding area. Facilities at this well-kept campground cover the essentials of toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Shops and other services are five minutes’ drive away in Bradford.

Local attractions

If you’d like to get out and see more of the area’s scenery, a good place to start is Big Cypress Tree State Park (20 minutes’ drive), a hotspot for native wildflowers and birds. Other options nearby include Reelfoot Lake State Park (an hour) and Murray State Arboretum (an hour and 10 minutes) – although if you really want to be sure of wildlife spottings (both native and more exotic) you’ll want to head to Tennessee Safari Park (35 minutes). Also dotted around the surrounding countryside are several wineries to visit – White Squirrel Winery (25 minutes) is one of your closest. Or you could try a trip to the Samuel T Bryant Distillery (45 minutes) if you need something a little stronger for your campfire evenings. Elsewhere nearby, you can see famous cars (like the Ghostbusters’ Ectomobile) at Rusty’s TV & Movie Car Museum (45 minutes), take a trip to Paris at the Eiffel Tower Park (55 minutes) or explore the Discovery Park of America (45 minutes), a heritage attraction covering everything from Native American history to space travel.
