  • Lakeside site 10 minutes' drive from Toccoa town centre
  • In the foothills of the Appalachian mountains for walks and activities
  • Canoeing, swimming, tennis and volleyball
On the banks of Georgia’s Lake Louise, in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and a short drive from Toccoa Falls and Tallulah Gorge – those canny church folks sure picked a pretty spot for their meeting place. In the woods around Georgia Baptist Conference Center is a peaceful campground, open to all comers who seek a bit of time chilling out by the lake. Also welcome are those who like spending their hours in or on the water – canoeing, swimming and fishing are among the activities for guests here. Away from the water’s edge there are also games of tennis, volleyball and basketball to play, nature trails to roam around on, and a playground to keep the kids amused. If you fancy heading out for dinner, there are heaps of options about a 10-minute drive away in Toccoa; if you’d rather relax in your woodland retreat, pick up supplies in town and scoot back to the campground to settle down by the fire ring and sizzle up a sausage or two.

Local attractions

There’s lots of scenic countryside around here to explore – get your boots on or gear up your bike and head out on the Frady Branch trail system, or drive for 40 minutes or so to get to the Panther Creek Trail. It’s also worth heading to the 185-foot-tall Toccoa Falls, 15 minutes’ drive away, and spending a bit of time roaming in the Tallulah Gorge State Park, half an hour away. Prefer your days out to come with a touch more adrenaline? Head up to Locust Stake ATV area for off-road driving trails, or prepare to get drenched on a whitewater rafting expedition from Clayton, 40 minutes’ drive from the campground. To get a taste of the area’s history and culture, pay a visit to the Currahee Military Museum, in Toccoa’s renovated train depot, or drive for 45 minutes to the open-air Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center. And how about a trip to the Alps? 45 minutes away in Helen there’s a recreated Bavarian village with attractions including an Alpine miniature golf course, vineyard visits and restaurants where you can feast on bratwurst and beers.
