  • Dog-friendly wilderness campground with over 3000 acres in the Ozarks
  • A 25-minute drive to the Buffalo river; 50 minutes to Hawksbill Crag
  • Waterfalls and over 50 miles of trails for hiking or riding on site
Get your wild side at the ready for Wilderness Rider Buffalo Ranch… with waterfalls, over 50 miles of trails for hiking or riding and around 22 buffalo on the ranch, this wilderness campground stretches out over 3000 acres in the Ozarks - a mountainous region with thick forests and plenty of waterfalls, river trails and lookouts. So, roll up and decide where to set up camp - it might do to bring your own food, as the nearest convenience stores are around 50 minutes' drive away. There are plenty of scenic spots, including cliffside sites available on a first-come-first-served basis (you’ll need a trail-ready vehicle to reach these). Some of the sites are okay to reach in a regular car, but others will require a four-wheel drive, Jeep or off-road vehicle. Hiking and climbing are included in your stay, so whether you’re setting off here solo or as part of a group or event, you’ll want to come equipped for some exploration. There are three trailheads a short drive away - hike onto the sights from there or take your trail-ready vehicle on the ride with you (just be aware, there's an added cost on trails to use a vehicle). In worst-case scenarios, the campground will free up stuck vehicles on the trails for an additional cost. Muck into more activities on the campground too… they run recreational riding on an ATV, Jeep, dirt bike, side-by-side or bicycle or you could tackle the 50-mile trail system on foot, vehicle or horseback (if you've brought your horse along). Just note, there's an extra fee for all of these activities.

Local attractions

It’s simple to get your hiking vacation in full flow from here… and each trail switches up the scenery nicely. To start off close by, the Sweden Creek Falls (five minutes’ drive) has a sweet waterfall and a hike that’s under two miles long. For those of you with your sights set on bigger horizons though, there's the 37-mile Buffalo River Trail along the Buffalo river (25 minutes)… and along here, there’s more than just the river for waterside scenery - take in the tall waterfall at Hemmed-In Hollow Falls (45 minutes). Where else to collect some more views? Hawksbill Crag (50 minutes) is a biggie for photography fans - the rock juts out over grand hills and forests. And for another beauty spot, there's the Kings River Falls Natural Area (45 minutes) with an easy two-mile trail and a swimming hole to cool off afterwards. In the Boxley Valley (around half an hour), you’ll be well-set to canoe or kayak the afternoon away, career onto more hiking trails or (if you time your trip right) see elk feeding between Ponca and Boxley after sunrise or later in the day.
