  • Comfortable and modern tourer site 15 minutes’ drive from Cartagena
  • Costa Cálida beaches and La Muela nature reserve 20 minutes’ drive
  • Communal cafeteria, vending machines and barbecues; dog-exercise area
Modern, comfortable and quiet are the watchwords at El Mástil Camper Park, nicely set up for motorhomes, caravans and campervans with hardstanding pitches and electric hook-ups. The site is at La Aljorra, north-west of historic Cartagena on the Costa Cálida, and the Mediterranean Sea is about 20 minutes’ drive away. Round and about the site are smart facilities with hot showers, lockers for your extra security and a launderette service with washing machines and dryers. There’s a communal café with vending machines for coffee, drinks and snacks, and plenty of green space outside for picnics as well as a dedicated barbecue area. A fresh bread service is also available every day. El Mástil has a handy location within 10 minutes’ walking distance of a pharmacy, supermarkets, bus stops and petrol stations. A market is held every Thursday in La Aljorra, and there’s also a local gym and pétanque court if you’re keen to keep active. Dogs are welcome on site too; they have their own exercise yard, and there are many walks to be found in the La Aljorra countryside.

Liked: Great caravan/motorhome park, very clean, great pitches.
El Mástil has to be one of the best sites we have every stayed on, it has been so well thought out, different pitch sizes to choose from all with electric and water.
Fabulous washing machines and dryers.
Clean showers.
BBQ area and a pool in the Summer months.
The staff are lovely, kind and attentive.
Discounts offered for longer stays.
An absolute gem of a find!
Even had free Paella and impromptu entertainment one afternoon.
Congratulations to the owners, we wish you every success!

Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked: An oasis in the middle of veg growing area and on the edge of town.
Essentially a converted car park and veg storehouse but very well planned and set up and immaculately maintained by friendly and conscientious staff.
Makes for a lovely atmosphere and great stopover.

Disliked: Not a lot to do in the immediate area. But there are bus services to Cartagena, Murcia, etc.

Local attractions

Several thousands of years old, Cartagena (15 minutes’ drive) has been home to everyone from the Carthaginians to the Arabs. It’s a gorgeous city to explore with a vast Roman amphitheatre carved into the hillside and an old centre within 18th-century walls. Head up to the fortress in Parque Torres for Mediterranean views and a look round the history museum, and then check out the Modernista architecture along Calle Mayor. When a day at the seaside calls, you can soak up the sun on numerous sandy Costa Cálida beaches. Chances are you’ll have tiny, rugged Playa de la Parajola (25 minutes) to yourselves, while the serviced beach at Playa de Portús (20 minutes) is backed by cafés and bars. Watersports including sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and fishing are also available at beaches all along the coastline. Inland, you can play golf (15 minutes) on a scenic course, or set off on hiking trails through the steep foothills of Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñoso y Roldán nature reserve (20 minutes) – be sure to keep an eye out for eagles floating in the thermals as you walk.
