Being able to walk to the beach in a couple of minutes is a fabulous thing on holiday… but what if you could walk to two… or three… or maybe even four? Well, that’s the rather excellent deal you’ll get when you stay at Kampaoh Playa Troenzo, just outside Celorio on the Asturias coastline. This glamping site is in an enviable position, with direct access to Troenzo beach and with several other beaches (both little coves and longer sandy stretches) within about 10 minutes’ walk. The craggy coastline of this part of northern Spain also lends itself to a good walk, with several scenic spots nearby. And if you’re up for more of a challenging hike, there are several great trails a little way inland, and the Picos de Europa National Park is about half an hour’s drive away. There’s nature to enjoy here even without leaving the site – the park has more than a thousand trees around its grounds, so it’s a nicely green and peaceful place to relax, with plenty of shade for your siestas. Facilities on site are fairly low key (no noisy discos or anything like that here…) but with all the essentials in place: a play area, a restaurant (with tapas and full meals), a sea-view café/bar, a mini market and a launderette included. Staff can also help you organise surf lessons if you’d like to try riding the waves. In keeping with that chilled-out coastal lifestyle, you’ll be staying in a well-furnished and stylish tent that’s got beds and bed linen provided for a nice easy outdoor break.

Local attractions

A little tour of the local beaches is surely in order here – there’s really a lot to enjoy among the offerings of Borizo beach (five minutes’ walk), Playa de la Tayada (10 minutes) and Playa de Sorraos (10 minutes). The walk between the beaches is a scenic one too, as you’ll be looking out towards the islets dotted along this stretch of coastline. Celorio (15 minutes’ walk) is a good place to aim for if you fancy some watersports, with Playa de Torimbia (10 minutes' drive) a good option for those who like to go completely clothes-free with their sunbathing. Cuevas del Mar beach (20 minutes), with its rock formations forming caves and tunnels, is another popular local spot. Time for a break from the beach? Take a walk around medieval Llanes (10 minutes) to see the old palaces and tower, visit the fishing village of Ribadesella (20 minutes) or learn about local food and drink on the Ruta'l Quesu y la Sidra food tour (40 minutes).
