  • Five kilometres from the foodie and festival resort of San Sebastián
  • Shuttle bus to town every 30 minutes
  • Restaurant, bar and barbecue area on site
Right. Firmness is probably needed here. If you're in the habit of holidaying fairly regularly in Spain and you haven't yet been to San Sebastián in the Basque country, it's a firm fact that you really should, and soon. San Sebastián is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain and has been described as the country's 'most elegant and fashionable seaside resort' (high praise indeed…) And you might want to stay at WeCamp San Sebastián too: it's only five kilometres from the resort's gorgeous Ondarreta beach, in a sublime setting between the mountains and the sea, and – how super – runs a shuttle bus to San Sebastián every 30 minutes. Hurrah! WeCamp San Sebastián is a family-friendly site with modern facilities, including an up-to-date amenities block with plenty of showers and loos, hot and cold water all the day and night long, and coin-operated washers and dryers. Lockers of varying sizes are to hand so guests can keep their stuff snugly secure. For eats, tasty local meals are dished up at the site restaurant and a roomy barbecue area with picnic tables is available for guests' use. Thirsts can be slaked at the WeCamp San Sebastián bar and supplies sorted at the on-site supermarket; shops and restaurants are just over half a kilometre away.

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (plus)

Liked: Being able to get on a bus into San Sebastián. Facilities were good.

Disliked: The lack of any soap or even any soap dispensers in the toilets. Pretty bad, I did speak to the reception team about this but no idea if they will install any.

Liked: Facilities were spotless. Free yoga and Pilates was great with a fabulous teacher. The trip into Sen Sebastián couldn’t be easier. Plenty of frequent buses to the doorstep

Disliked: Very tight pitches and need a two pin electric adaptor.

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite (plus)

Liked: The bar, restaurant was quite nice. Food was OK. The bus stop at the entrance was v convenient

Disliked: Our pitch was v small, with a large tree half way across. Could only put awning out half way. Muddy underfoot. No soap or hand drier in toilets...very basic necessity. As a medical professional I was shocked! Wifi was so patchy as to be un- usable. And this cost almost 150e for 3 nights. Very poor value indeed

Liked: Nightmare camp to get to. Do not follow sat nav. Do as we did, drop a pin on the beachfront, from there put in WeCamp. The staff are very friendly the pool very clean. But the pitches are very much on top of each other.

Primitive grass and gravel campervan campsite

Liked: Smartness of site - very well maintained. Didn’t use pool but it looked nice. Proximity to San Sebastián - accessed by regular (and cheap) shuttle bus. Sanitary/laundry facilities (near the glamping) were very smart.

Disliked: Pitch not at all level. One of waitresses in restaurant could have been more attentive and smiled more (the one behind the bar was lovely). Likewise receptionists who were generally helpful but could have been friendlier. I was told that yoga would be in an inside venue but not that it would by the pool if the weather was good - only realised this on the last day, by V which time it was too late.

Local attractions

San Sebastián city centre is 15 minutes’ drive from WeCamp San Sebastián – or do get that 30-minute shuttle bus... Once in town, firmly recommended are scenic strolls along its three beaches: La Concha, the surf centre Zurriola, and Ondarreta, a family-friendly and large stretch of sand also known for its surfing and bodyboarding. San Sebastián is quite the foodie city too – many inhabitants are members of the local gourmet clubs – and has heaps of well-renowned restaurants at which to sample Basque and other cuisine. It's a cultural place as well, home of the San Sebastián International Film Festival and of Jazzaldia, the longest continuously running jazz festival in Europe; small wonder that, along with Wroclaw in Poland, San Sebastián was awarded European City of Culture for 2016... The city is also (sí, there's a whole heap more) famed for its pintxos, the small bars of the region serving tapas alongside its drinks. Head to the San Sebastián Old Town to try the best of them: another reason this city is a must is that it has the highest concentration of bars in the world.
