Swimming pool surrounded by greenery

  • Leafy site with stunning Vall d’Aran views in the Pyrenees foothills
  • Vielha restaurants 15 minutes’ drive and Salardú 25 minutes
  • Swimming pool, sports courts and kids’ activities; restaurant and bar
It’s all about appreciating the environment at Bedura Park, a lushly green site amid the dramatic scenery of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park in the Pyrenees foothills. As well as simply soaking up the rugged mountain landscapes and views down the Vall d’Aran from your grass pitch, you’re actively encouraged to explore the native forest that envelops this peaceful spot. As well as an abundance of nature, it has everything you need for a happy, chilled family holiday: a play area with slides and climbing apparatus, a swimming pool surrounded by trees, basketball and badminton nets and a field for ball games. Families can get healthily competitive over ping-pong in the games room, and fun activities (dressing up, woodland hiking, circus skills) for kids are organised on site too. Catering-wise, there’s a small supermarket for picking up essentials to cook on the communal barbecues. Alternatively, you can sample local dishes in the informal restaurant or round off the night with a drink at the bar. There’s one rule however: absolute silence must reign between 11pm and 7am, so everyone can get a decent night’s sleep.

Local attractions

Adventures to be had in wild nature around Bedura Park include canoeing, kayaking and freshwater fishing on the Garona river (which runs past the site). You can find hiking and trekking trails for all levels of experience too; try the path through alpine meadows to Lake Bassa d’Oles from Gausac (15 minutes’ drive), or discover Uelhs deth Joèu waterfall on your ramble to scenic Era Artiga de Lin from Es Bòrdes (five minutes). More challenging routes include an excursion up the craggy slopes of Tuc de Molières (half an hour to the car park) – a jaunt best left to experienced hikers. There are also several testing mountain bike trails around the hilltop villages of Salardú (25 minutes) and Vielha (15 minutes). As well as being an outdoors hub, Vielha has a museum of local life and a striking Romanesque church. It’s also the place to sample regional cuisine like ólla aranesa (meat and vegetable stew) in simple restaurants. The cute mountain village of Unha (25 minutes) has several quality restaurants offering artisan cheeses, cured meats and spicy lentils as tapas sharing dishes.
