It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet site in the wildlife-rich area of Arribes del Duero Natural Park
- A five-min drive to Aldeadávila de la Ribera; 10 to the Duero canyon
- Within 20 mins of Playa del Rostro beach for kayaking and boat trips
If you’re finding it tricky to decide where to stay on a stint in Spain an easy solution is to hand: go for Camping Las Casitas de las Arribes in Salamanca’s Arribes del Duero Natural Park. This site’s about a five-minute drive from the amenities of Aldeadávila de la Ribera village in the western part of the nation and within easy reach of Portugal too: the border is a 40-minute drive away.
It’s also surrounded by viewpoints over the lush Duero river canyon that you can see by car, on a hike or even from a boat: try the Mirador del Fraile (10 minutes’ drive) to look down on the glassy green water from high up or roam to the Playa del Rostro river beach (20 minutes away) for bathing beside the banks. Kayaking’s also possible from here – rent a craft for DIY canyon explores or head off on a guided 90-minute cruise.
Once you’ve had enough of the water, the site’s a welcoming spot to return to for one of the organised team games or live music performances. A bar with a terrace is available for light meals and drinks amid tons of trees and the greenery here and in the national park lures in birds as well if you'd like to look out for rare ones like the endangered black stork while out on hikes.
As the setting's known for its vineyards too, it's worth swinging by a bodega selling bottles of locally produced alcohol less than 10 minutes’ drive away. Olive and almond groves, as well as orange trees, are also all around in this sweetly scented land…
