  • Small family site in the Maestrazgo village of Cañizar del Olivar
  • In a scenic valley 10 minutes’ drive from the Route of Silence
  • Restaurant and bar on site, plus summer-season pools
What's there to do from Camping Las Aguas, in the small Maestrazgo village of Cañizar del Olivar? Well, scenic drives along the winding Route of Silence begin 10 minutes’ drive away, taking in views of mountains and historic villages. And nature trails are also all around, covering forests and deep canyons… But don't plan too much, as this small family site in a scenic valley location is also well equipped with several cosy outdoor areas to spend your lazy hours. An on-site restaurant/bar is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving up tasty tapas or larger portions with typical Aragonese products, as well as hot and cold sandwiches and cakes for those with a sweet tooth. Doing your own cooking is possible, too, with a barbecue area, an industrial kitchen and a spacious dining area on site. Build up your appetite with the cycling and walking trails that begin directly from the site. They go out into the surrounding mountains, so it won’t be long until you arrive in a forested area with trees that change with the altitude, from pine to holm oak. Camping Las Aguas is a handy spot to bring the kids, as no cars are permitted in the village centre (two minutes' walk away). The village has a playground and a five-a-side pitch, both of which are free to use; you can also ask to use the public pétanque court or public gym. Swinging by Camping Las Aguas in July or August? That’s when the pool complex is open: there’s one for adults, another (fenced) for children, along with a sunbathing area and changing rooms. Other facilities on site include toilets, showers and an area for washing dishes and clothes.

Local attractions

Here for the hikes? Good news: there’s plenty of choice. Start with the wooden walkways suspended over the Guadalupe gorge at Pasarelas De Valloré (40 minutes’ drive). Another dramatic canyon walk – this time with swinging bridges – is at Pasarelas Hoz Mala (40 minutes). Meanwhile, more peaceful strolls (and birdlife) are the highlights at Laguna del Cañizar (an hour and 20 minutes). Those who are most interested in the Route of Silence, jot down the viewpoint for Òrgans de Montoro (35 minutes), a limestone formation that looks like organ pipes. There are many gorgeous old Maestrazgo villages further along on the drive, including Villarluengo (50 minutes), Tronchón (an hour and 10 minutes), Mirambel and Cantavieja (both an hour and 25 minutes). As for folks holidaying with kids, these places are always good options: Museo Minero de Escucha (20 minutes), a mining museum, and the caves at Grutas de Cristal (25 minutes).
