- Small, peaceful site in the Peruvian Alps with stunning mountain views
- Maras 10 minutes' drive; half an hour to Urubamba
- Moray Archaeological Zone within walking distance
If you’re heading to the Peruvian Andes, chances are you’re hoping to see a stunning mountain view or few… and it's fair to say you’ll have plenty of those at Tres Nevados. This small site is tucked away in a rural spot about 10 minutes' drive from the town of Maras, and it's got spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of Chicon, Verónica and Pumahuanca, among others.
This is a simple site with just the essential facilities, including toilets, showers, wifi and a small café. You’re welcome to bring a barbecue or get a campfire going – either one makes a wonderful accompaniment to a sunset drink or an evening of stargazing.
You may find that you're content just to sit and admire the views from your pitch – but if not, you’ll be well placed to get out for mountain hikes, or other outdoor activities including birdwatching, paragliding, climbing, horse riding and rafting (Urubamba, about half an hour's drive away, is a good place to find activity providers).
The scenery may be jaw-dropping, but it’s not the only thing that draws visitors to this area. It’s also full of fascinating history, with a good number of archaeological sites to visit nearby. The Moray Archaeological Zone is the closest at about 20 minutes' walk away, but you should certainly also check out the Salt Mine of Maras and perhaps stop by at some of the other ancient sites in the area.
