- Peaceful, green family site five minutes' drive from Renswoude
- Between the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Hoge Veluwe national parks
- Swimming pools, forest trail, bicycle hire and restaurant with terrace
On one side, the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park; on the other, the Hoge Veluwe National Park. And right there in the middle, about 20 minutes’ drive from each, is the family-friendly De Leughte Resort Renswoude.
With such credentials to its name, it comes as no surprise to hear that this is a fine spot from which to set out for days of walking, cycling and horse riding. Even if you don’t fancy venturing as far as either park or the Grebbelinie (10 minutes' drive), there’s plenty of gorgeous greenery to explore in and around the nearby town of Renswoude (three kilometres away; pick up supermarket supplies and baked goodies while you’re up there…).
Family-oriented and full of green spaces, De Leughte Resort Renswoude has two swimming pools: one large, heated indoor pool with a retractable roof and a smaller paddling pool. Kids have plenty of places to spend their playtime, between the educational forest trail, water playground, trampoline, panna field, go-karting and kids' entertainment programme.
That's not all, though. The whole family can head to the fishing pond or rent electric or standard bicycles to pedal around the local area. When appetites are high, head to the modern terrace at the on-site restaurant for snacks and drinks, or pick up supplies from the camp shop at reception.

Local attractions
You may well spot some wildlife in the national parks – but then again, you may not (wild beasties sometimes don’t arrive on cue…). Guarantee animal sightings with outings to Ouwehands Zoo (half an hour's drive) or the Het AlpacaBos alpaca farm (15 minutes).
If you’re up for a bit of history on your holidays, take a walk around the grounds of Castle Renswoude (five minutes) – so swish it’s even got its own ‘grand canal’ – or step back in time to live the lifestyle of days gone by at the Netherlands Open Air Museum (25 minutes). The Pyramid of Austerlitz (20 minutes) and the Nationaal Militair Museum (half an hour) should also please those looking for a history-themed outing.
A day trip to Utrecht (40 minutes) will yield more history from across the ages, along with some fab museums (don’t miss the colourful Miffy Museum…). For more elaborate art, head to the Kröller-Müller Museum (half an hour) to view Van Gogh’s efforts.
Have the kids been well-behaved? Perhaps they’ve earned the reward of a dip at Recreatiegebied Henschotermeer (20 minutes), a lake with soft sandy beaches.
