  • Dog-friendly lakeside spot with Veluwemeer and Veluwe on either side
  • 25-minute drive from Walibi Holland; plenty of cycling trails locally
  • Indoor pool, restaurant and soft play; watersports rental nearby
Here’s a combo you won’t be able to turn down – a wildlife haven right on the waters’ edge with watersports rental 100 metres away. Very conveniently for those in search of a break that’s both relaxing and active, EuroParcs Bad Hoophuizen has the Veluwemeer on one side and cycle-friendly Veluwe landscapes on the other… and highlights on its own resume include an indoor swimming pool and on-site restaurant. Count yourself in for plenty of refreshing dips, then, and watersports if you fancy. Wild swimming and boat trips are some unique ways to take in the Veluwemeer, and there are also schools to learn windsurfing and kitesurfing within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. As the site is right on the waters’ edge, there are plenty of moorings for boats too. Perhaps you prefer your thrills on land. If so, you’ll be pleased to know that the site is in the town of Hulshorst, which is bordered by Nunspeet and the Veluwe. That means that extensive moors, lush forests and meadows are a short drive away and they make for splendid bike rides and game hunting. Dizzying rollercoasters more your thing? Walibi Holland is 25 minutes’ drive away too. It'll be easy to get into holiday mode at EuroParcs Bad Hoophuizen too, given that the dog-friendly site has its own indoor pool, restaurant, entertainment, indoor soft play and an outdoor sports area. On those eves where you feel like eating out, game dishes are on the menu in the local areas, especially in the town of Vierhouten (20 minutes).

Velthorst 2 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow (pet friendly, four person)

Local attractions

One of the most splendid ways to explore Veluwe is with the slow pace of a hike or a bike ride. Begin by cycling to Speulderbos (half an hour’s drive or an hour’s cycle), also known locally as ‘the forest of dancing trees’, and weave between the trunks in one of the oldest beech forests in the Netherlands. Rather than just dining on the fruits of others’ labour, book your own games hunting at VVV | Nunspeet uit de Kunst (15 minutes’ drive). With the help of a guide, it’s possible to get out on foot, bicycle or by wagon. Further out, a day out in the city Apeldoorn (50 minutes) can mix up your iterinary a little. Take in the grand Paleispark Kroondomein Het Loo (40 minutes), go shopping or visit the monkeys in the Apenheul (40 minutes) zoo.
