Scouting for a stay which is just steps from the sea? Just across from National Route 1 and fronting a sandy Atlantic beach, Tahadart is a vast, peaceful and well-equipped site with tree-shaded pitches and a firm 'back to nature' vibe. It sits right between Asilah (20 minutes’ drive) and Tangier (40 minutes).
Get a taste of the local cuisine at the on-site restaurant and café, and forget about cooking during your holiday. If you do want to indulge your culinary talents, barbecues are provided. Asilah is your best bet for provisions, and it’s easily accessed by bus (there’s a bus stop close to the site, on the NR1).
The site is clean and secure, making it great for families and other explorers. There are chances for relaxation or adventure, with a park for games and a peaceful terrace. The beach (with umbrellas and chairs) includes a shallow lagoon at the mouth of the Oued Mharhar stream where kids can splash about safely in the water.
Add camel rides and top conditions for flying kites (thank those Atlantic breezes). If you want to swim (and dive) in deeper waters, you can hire a pedal boat, and there’s also a kitesurfing school for those who want to have a go at riding the waves.
Back at the site after a long day on the sand (one word of advice: do stay until sunset, which is quite spectacular on this west-facing beach), you can freshen up before dinner while the kids blow off some steam (if they have any left) in the play area. Other amenities include a washing machine and charging facilities; and if you’re travelling with your canine buddy, the site has a dog park, not to mention several dog walks in the vicinity.

Local attractions
In the coastal town of Asilah (15 minutes' drive), whitewashed houses provide a canvas for colourful murals that are produced annually as part of the Asilah Arts Festival. Get lost in the town’s maze of narrow alleyways, before checking out the well-preserved fortifications, built by the Portuguese in the 15th century, and perusing the stalls at the weekly souk.
See if you can spot the Africa-shaped opening facing the sea at the Hercules Caves (40 minutes). This cave complex, which also includes carved walls and a section decorated with Greek statuary, sits just south of the Réserve du Cap Spartel, with rugged coastal walks and lush gardens.
In Tangier, the Corniche promenade has far-reaching views over the bay and the Strait of Gibraltar. There are seafood restaurants around the port area, and interesting sights in the city include the lively Grand Socco market square, the elegant Tangier American Legation Museum and tree-lined Mendoubia Garden. Port de Tanger Med II is just over an hour's drive from the site for transport further afield.
