It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet site in the Apennine foothills overlooking a rural valley
- A 20-minute drive from Gubbio or 40 minutes from Perugia
- Outdoor swimming, free wifi and low noise and light pollution
It's three cheers for nature at In-natural Land, a wildlife haven site in a quiet corner of Perugia province. This is a spot that really celebrates its green surroundings – the lush fields and farmland, the woodlands that brim with birds, the hills that gradually grow in size as you approach the mighty Apennine Mountains…
The site is run by a local association that strives to promote Apennine biodiversity and minimise your holiday's impact on the environment. Open-air facilities like a spacious natural bathing pool, an on-site barbecue space and a handy shared kitchen make it easy to spend your time appreciating the kinds of views you'll see in the site photos. In-natural Land's other amenities include free wifi access and well-maintained toilets and showers.
Set back from busy roads in a rural area with low levels of light and noise pollution, In-natural Land is within easy reach of interesting local towns like Gubbio (20 minutes' drive) and the bigger city of Perugia (40 minutes), famed throughout Italy as the birthplace of Perugina chocolate. If you get a taste for freshwater bathing while taking dips on site, you might also like to head out to Lake Trasimeno Regional Park (55 minutes), an Umbrian beauty spot with shallow waters that make for warmer than average swims.

Local attractions
On arrival here, you'll definitely want to take a closer look at Gubbio (20 minutes' drive) – this small city's mix of 14th-century turrets, historic churches and Renaissance palaces makes for a very interesting day out indeed. If you're pressed for time, you can also take in most of the city's best panoramas by cable car.
Other must-see cities include Perugia (40 minutes), a lively and cosmopolitan university town with a gorgeous cathedral and excellent galleries. There's also Assisi (45 minutes) a small and simple spot town that's made a name for itself in terms of art, architecture and for being the birthplace of Saint Francis.
All that high culture is fascinating enough, but it may not quite suffice to keep the kids thoroughly entertained. To liven up your trip for the younger members of your party, you might like to pay a visit to Laguna Park (55 minutes), a wet and wild waterpark on the edge of Trasimeno lake. Other sure-fire kid-pleasers in the area include Perugia's reptile zoo (45 minutes) and Maneggio Castiglione Aldobrando (30 minutes), a family-friendly local riding school.
