Sitting on the shores of Lake Molveno, Camping Spiaggia Lago di Molveno has a striking backdrop of craggy peaks in the Brenta Dolomites. Its location set between water and mountains makes it an exceptional spot for a full roster of year-round active fun. Summer sports available on site include beach volleyball, mini-golf, tennis and bowls. You can hire mountain bikes and head up steep alpine trails, or go swimming in the lake – the Acquapark e Piscina Olimpionica next-door has a heated Olympic-size pool if the lake’s too cold. In winter, take yourself off to Paganella (10 minutes’ drive) for skiing, boarding or tobogganing with the kids, and lake fishing is permitted from January to October. But it’s not all about rushing from one sporty pursuit to another at Camping Spiaggia Lago di Molveno; when you need some pampering downtime, head for Dolomia Wellness for restorative saunas, Turkish baths, whirlpools and massages to bring life back to tired bodies. Eating and drinking are taken care of too, with typical regional dishes served at chalet-style Ristorante and Pizzeria Tavola Calda – just the spot for a glass or two of Trentino white wine and ‘aperitivo’ snacks in the evening. With views over the lake, Bar La Playa on the beach also has a menu of daytime snacks, so you’ll never go hungry. Now a few practical details: on site there are washing machines and dryers for your convenience, and shared barbecues if you’re into alfresco eating – pick up all you need from the well-stocked on-site grocery and deli.

Local attractions

The campsite has direct access to hikes in Adamello Brenta Nature Park – the largest protected area in Trentino, where you can venture through a blanket of coniferous forest to spectacular waterfalls. Drive up to Val di Fumo car park (90 minutes’ drive) for spectacular routes across alpine pasture to Lake Campo – and keep an eye open for local wildlife, including marmots and eagles, as you walk. Mountain bikers should be happy with their lot, too, with myriad trails around Molveno and leading up into the Brenta Dolomites. Paganella (10 minutes) has steep downhill tracks and spectacular mountain routes open from May to November. The more intrepid among you can paraglide over the lake and mountains, or scale steep rock faces in the company of expert alpine guides. In winter, it’s all about the snow; a free shuttle bus runs up to Paganella (10 minutes) from Molveno. Other local resorts include the wide pistes at Pinzolo (50 minutes), which has lifts interconnecting with several other ski spots in the Val di Sole.

Liked Beautiful site, next to a lake and surrounded by mountains. Excellent facilities, clean and modern with a good restaurant on site. Staff were incredibly helpful and the campsite is walking distance to the village.
