Set on a hilltop high above Florence, the top feature of Camping Village Panoramico surely has to be its vista towards the city’s historic rooftops, which lie a very handy seven kilometres away. Set in wooded grounds filled with acacia, oak, pine, poplar and olive trees, this Chianti hills setting is just outside the ancient city of Fiesole and equidistant from Siena and Pisa; you're within easy reach of San Gimignano, Volterra, Lucca and Arezzo too. Day trips into Florence are a piece of cake: it's under half an hour's drive away from the city. For long leisure-filled days back at base, start off with breakfast at the poolside bar; once you've had your morning coffee, turn your attention to the good-sized pool and neighbouring paddling pool, which provide a pleasant place for cooling dips and swims between lengthy lounges on the sun loungers. The restaurant serves classic Tuscan meat and fish specialities and tasty Tuscan pizzas to take away, or for something of the self-catered variety, food (and non-food items) can be sourced at the site's mini market.

Liked: Beau camping, nombreux services. Belle piscine et vue sur Florence. Navette pratique jusqu'au centre du village voisin, permettant de prendre le bus en direction du centre de Florence. Personnel agréable, et parlant le français à l'accueil.

Disliked: Sol très caillouteux sur notre emplacement.

Liked: Grote camperplaats met voldoende schaduw. Proper sanitair met alle voorzieningen aanwezig. Shuttlebus naar dorp voor bus na Florence werkt zeer goed en is zeker een aanrader.

Liked: Cool during night, good breeze, nice views, decently-private lots. Easy access to city, very affordable.

Disliked: Shuttle starts late and finishes early. Walk up to campsite from town is far and steep. Reception opens a little late each morning, so if you want to leave early, must get ID and pay night before. Lights at night very, very annoying.

Liked: The clean environment. The organization with the staff. They walk you to your pitch and offer a shuttle every hour to Fiesole's main bus station. The family running the restaurant was amazing. All food was served promptly, clean and with good customer service. All very family oriented.

Disliked: Some of the younger couples (20s) were using the female showers as a "mix" bathroom. As a female, a mom and a traveler this gave me a uneasy feeling. Needs more vigilance or AT LEAST more signs prohibiting males in the female ONLY designated areas. Especially for the children.

Liked: Frühstücksware war super lecker, Pool gepflegt und schön gemacht, Aussicht, nettes und freundliches Personal, kleine Einkaufsmöglichkeit, Shuttle-Service zum Dorf und der Busstation nach Florenz. Das Schildkrötengehege.

Disliked: Ich musste sie nutzen, hätte es aber lieber vermieden: Die Sanitäranlagen!! Sehr alt, was an sich kein Problem ist, doch: - Schienen fürn Abfluss teilweise rostig und kaputt (Achtung: Verletzungsgefahr!) - Türmechanismen teilweise kaputt. - es stank nach Abfluss 🤢 - verseucht von Mücken, was vermutlich den alten Anlagen geschuldet ist (auch Gestank). Man konnte nicht in Ruhe aufs Klo, duschen oder abspülen. Sie wurden zwar täglich gereinigt (die Anlagen), aber ich habe mich so unwohl und angeekelt gefühlt. - Seife wurde erst aufgefüllt, nachdem wir es angesprochen haben (Dafür passierte es schnell, was gut ist) Bitte renoviert diese Anlagen, dann kommen wir gerne wieder und unternimmt was gegen die Mücken. Wir konnten nicht draußen sitzen. Wifi bitte ausbauen.

Route directions

Exit at Firenze Sud A1 and follow signs to the city centre. Only after the first roundabout should you turn on the Satnav and write: Via Augusto Righi and/or Piazza Edison and follow directions for Fiesole. Only take Via Di San Domenico.

Local attractions

First things first: head down to Fiesole (five minutes' drive), and have a good long wander around its small and ancient town centre to see sights including Roman bath ruins, a Roman amphitheatre with festivals and events throughout the summer months, and the hilltop upon which Leonardo da Vinci first experimented with the concept of flight. And then, of course it should be off to the centre of Florence (25 minutes) with you, to check out spectacular historic spots such as the Piazza del Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and Michelangelo's statues of David and Dawn and Dusk. Whether you fancy a tour of the surrounding hills and wineries, a day trip to Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Lucca or Arezzo, or sunbathing sessions at one of the beaches that lie along the Etruscan coast, getting out and about around the rest of Tuscany is a cinch from here.
