Set on a hilltop high above Florence, the top feature of Camping Village Panoramico surely has to be its vista towards the city’s historic rooftops, which lie a very handy seven kilometres away. Set in wooded grounds filled with acacia, oak, pine, poplar and olive trees, this Chianti hills setting is just outside the ancient city of Fiesole and equidistant from Siena and Pisa; you're within easy reach of San Gimignano, Volterra, Lucca and Arezzo too. Day trips into Florence are a piece of cake: it's under half an hour's drive away from the city. For long leisure-filled days back at base, start off with breakfast at the poolside bar; once you've had your morning coffee, turn your attention to the good-sized pool, which provides a pleasant place for cooling dips and swims between lengthy lounges on the sun loungers. The restaurant serves classic Tuscan meat and fish specialities and tasty Tuscan pizzas to take away, or for something of the self-catered variety, food (and non-food items) can be sourced at the site's mini market.

This hilltop site has amazing Florence views. Friendly staff, free Fiesole shuttle for city access, and a great pool are highlights. Food's delicious! Road can be steep for big vehicles; showers/toilets are dated. Shop selection is small.

Liked War nur der Pool und der Shuttlebus nach Fieselo

Disliked Die Stellplätz sind zum Teil voll in der Sonne. Keinen Schatten. Keine Wasserstellen. Nur eine wo man das Grauwasser entsorgen kann. Der Supermarkt am Pool beim Restaurant ist ein Witz. Die haben da rein gar nichts. Musst also mit dem Fahrrad oder mit dem Shuttlebus einkaufen fahren. Waschhaus nur eins am Platz. Also, wenn du ganz unten einen Platz hast dann ist es echt zu weit zum laufen. Dann ist es an den Premiumlätzen echt lebensgefährlich wenn man dort stehen möchte. Das Geländer ist kaputt und echt gefährlich.

Liked Wunderschöner Platz, die Anfahrt ist etwas heikel, weil sehr steil. Super ist der Shuttlebus nach Fiesole. Sehr sauber auch das waschhaus, leider von unserem Platz aus ziemlich weit entfernt. Der Pool ist auch toll vor allem die Aussicht.

Disliked Inflexible attitude towards disabled visitors. Showers and toilets very dated and in much need of cleaning. Some pitches are just earth with no drainage and turned muddy when it rained.

Exit at Firenze Sud A1 and follow signs to the city centre. Only after the first roundabout should you turn on the Satnav and write: Via Augusto Righi and/or Piazza Edison and follow directions for Fiesole. Only take Via Di San Domenico.

First things first: head down to Fiesole (five minutes' drive), and have a good long wander around its small and ancient town centre to see sights including Roman bath ruins, a Roman amphitheatre with festivals and events throughout the summer months, and the hilltop upon which Leonardo da Vinci first experimented with the concept of flight. And then, of course it should be off to the centre of Florence (25 minutes) with you, to check out spectacular historic spots such as the Piazza del Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and Michelangelo's statues of David and Dawn and Dusk. Whether you fancy a tour of the surrounding hills and wineries, a day trip to Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Lucca or Arezzo, or sunbathing sessions at one of the beaches that lie along the Etruscan coast, getting out and about around the rest of Tuscany is a cinch from here.
