Beach or pool? Pool or beach? Such are the difficult dilemmas facing guests at Hotiday Room Collection – Milano Marittima, a family-friendly holiday park at the northern end of Milano Marittima on the Emilia-Romagna coast.
In fact, it's not that much of a tricky decision to make, as the pool is right there on site and it's a mere 100-metre walk to the beach – meaning that you can easily spend your holiday bouncing around between the two with very little effort indeed. And they're equally lovely options – the pool is large and flanked with sun loungers, plus a paddling pool for the kids, and the beach is long and sandy, with a private equipped area (with parasols and loungers) available for a fee.
Fancy a small change of scenery? The site has a fitness centre and a garden to wander around, and there are several natural areas nearby for a longer stroll – perhaps taking a trail through the Pineta Milano Marittima forest or ambling by the lake at Salina di Cervia. Ravenna and Rimini are not far away along the coast, and there are various family attractions close by including the ever-popular Mirabilandia.
Accommodation here is in comfortable lodges with beds made up and towels provided for the ensuite bathroom, so you'll be able to get settled in straight away. Each lodge also has a TV, heating and air conditioning, plus outdoor seating on the patio.
For eats and drinks, the site’s restaurant and bar are open through the summer season and there are several eateries and bars scattered along the nearby beachfront.

Local attractions
It's entirely possible that the beach and pool will take up much of your time here, but it's worth throwing in the occasional alternative outing as well – shaded walks or canalside cycle rides in the Milano Marittima pine forest, a short walk away, are particularly good on hot days, and there are more rambles to be had in Gino Pilandri Park (five minutes’ drive) and by the lake in Cervia Natural Park (10 minutes).
Keeping the kids amused should be easy around here, perhaps with a visit to the colourful butterflies at Casa delle Farfalle (five minutes) or a day of splashing down the slides at Parco Acquatico Atlantica Cesenatico (15 minutes). There are also shows and rides for all ages – including some sizeable rollercoasters – at Mirabilandia (15 minutes), and lots of excellent models at Italia in Miniatura (25 minutes).
For more seaside days, take a trip to Ravenna (35 minutes) to see the gorgeous mosaics in several of the historic buildings and visit Dante's Tomb, or visit Rimini (40 minutes) for more beaches and Roman ruins.
