  • In a pine forest next to the beach, with a private beach area
  • A 10-minute drive from Paestum archaeological site; 20 from Agropoli
  • Swimming pool, beach bar, restaurant and excursions on site
It’s safe to assume that the great sea god Neptune would likely have given a nod of approval to this site that bears his name: Villaggio Campeggio Nettuno is, after all, in an enviable spot on the Campania coast, with a pine forest on one side and direct access to a beach on the other. And although the sea was his main focus (as it is with many guests), he’d probably appreciate being able to drive up to Capaccio Scalo in about five minutes for shops, restaurants and the like. The beach here is a particularly fine one, stretching out for several sandy kilometres, with a private serviced area (with umbrellas and sun loungers to rent), watersports kit to hire and plenty of places for a seaside drink or bite to eat. If you can peel yourself from the beach, it’s worth making the three-kilometre journey to the archaeological site at Paestum, and venturing further to Agropoli, Castellabate and the craggy Punta Licosa. Excursions to all of the above can be organised through the site to take any stress out of sorting the details. If you don’t fancy straying far from the beach, stick around on site to splash in the swimming pool before settling at the beach bar for aperitifs and sea-view social events. You won’t go hungry, either: there’s a mini market for self-catering types and a restaurant with a menu of dishes from around the Cilento area and the wider Mediterranean (gluten-free meals are available on request so don’t worry about catering for special diets).

Powered sand travel trailer campsite

Liked: Eigenlijk niks.

Local attractions

Keen to see more of the sea beyond the beach? Scuba diving trips are 20 minutes’ drive away, and boat trips or snorkelling outings will give you a good look at the craggy coastline and marine park around Punta Licosa (45 minutes). Sort your boat outings on site or over in Castellabate (35 minutes), a coastal town that’s also got a castle to wander around. This stretch of coast is also home to several historic attractions that are worth seeking out. The big draw is the archaeological site at Paestum (10 minutes), at one time a major Greek city and now home to three surviving temples (one of which is dedicated to Neptune). Nearby Agropoli (20 minutes) isn’t quite so ancient but its castle and cobbled centre make it a fine place for a wander. If you can bear to turn your back on the coast, there are some fine days out to be had inland too: make your way to the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park (40 minutes) for hilly walks and horse riding, or head underground at the Pertosa-Auletta caves (an hour).
