The north-eastern shore of Lake Balaton is a mere 10-minute drive away when you stay at Nomad Stellplatz. And the famed Hungarian lake isn’t just easily accessible from this peaceful hilltop site – it’s also clearly visible in the distance, past the forests of Balatonalmádi, a nature reserve that stretches between the site and the water.
Spacious grass motorhome pitches have optional electric hook-up, and on request, the owners can organise the use of the toilet and shower in the neighbouring A Pince wine bar. By the way, the latter is a top spot to try out regional offerings; what’s more, it’s dog-friendly, so your canine buddy can sit at your feet as you sample Riesling-type wines accompanied by boards loaded with charcuterie and pickles.
Speaking of dogs: no doubt they’ll want to stretch their legs too at some point. Just as well there is no shortage of trails in the surrounding area – whether in Balatonalmádi itself or at Balaton Uplands National Park (Balaton-felvidéki Nemzeti Park; 15 minutes), on the lake’s northern shore. Here, the Tihany Peninsula (half an hour) is covered with oak forests that shelter sparrow owls and hundreds of species of butterfly.
If you fancy a swim or a paddleboarding excursion, the nearest beach is Budatava Strand (10 minutes), which also has pedalos for hire, beach volleyball courts and ping-pong tables, while Csopak Strand (20 minutes) has an aquatic park and oodles of green areas for relaxing while the kids make new friends in the shaded playgrounds.

- There are no garbage cans onsite: all garbage will need to be taken home with you.
- Customers have access to toilets and showers in the restaurant 50m from the campsite. Electricity is metered on site at €0.50 per kWh and must be paid at check-out.

Local attractions
In the resort of Balatonalmádi (10 minutes’ drive), Óvári Messzelátó is a lookout tower with views as far as the lake. Along the elegant waterfront is a park with shaded trails, tennis courts and a music pavilion. From here it’s also possible to catch a ferry to other lakeside resorts.
MNM KK MNM Villa Romana Baláca (20 minutes) is a large Roman estate dating from the 3rd or 4th century. The villa is decorated with remarkably well-preserved mosaic floors and just the occasional fragment of colourful murals, while the garden houses a collection of Mediterranean herbs.
With its cobbled streets and elegant architecture, Székesfehérvár (45 minutes) is well worth a visit. Check out the Country Apple Statue, a massive stone orb in the main square, then head to Bory Castle, an early 20th-century structure built by Hungarian artist Jenő Bory, who filled it with fountains, mosaics, statues and antiques.
