It's free, quick and easy!
- Family-friendly Ardèche site by a forest with Rhône views
- By the ViaRhôna bike path; 10 minutes' drive to Train de l’Ardèche
- Swimming pool, snack bar, mini football field and miniature golf
They call this area the Green Ardèche – and a quick look at the pics will show you why that’s a most fitting name. Camping Iserand is in the midst of this gorgeous area, in a fine spot that was originally designed as an arboretum and sits on the edge of a forest with views over the Rhône.
There’s a real family atmosphere at this site, with plenty of facilities provided to keep everyone entertained. The highlight for many is the large swimming pool (with paddling pool for the smaller swimmers), but there’s more beyond that – including a mini football field, miniature golf, a playground and a bowling alley.
If you’re here in high season you’ll also have the option of getting involved with various activities organised by site staff, including guided hikes, games evenings, aquagym sessions and kids’ activities. When not involved in these antics on site, you might like to explore the surrounding area, perhaps touring the vineyards of the Saint Joseph AOC wine-growing region, cycling on the ViaRhôna riverside path, riding the Ardèche train or pedalling the Vélorail of the Gorges du Doux.
Finding fuel for all these activities and outings should be easy, as the site has a snack bar/pizzeria and a shop, and there are more places to eat a short walk away in the village of Vion.
Other handy facilities on site include wifi, a laundry room, and two spacious bathroom blocks with toilets and individually temperature-controlled showers.

Local attractions
If you like to include a bit of cycling on your holiday, this is a good spot – the ViaRhôna bike path is about 100 metres away for riverside rides as long as you like (it’s 815km long though so probably a good idea to have an idea of where to turn around). If that’s a bit ambitious, perhaps instead try the Vélorail of the Gorges du Doux (half an hour’s drive), where you’ll ride along the old railway line.
The Train de l’Ardèche (10 minutes) is another great way to see some of the local views, or you could explore underground at the Grotte de Choranche (an hour). If you like your scenery to come with a bit more activity, there are places nearby for horse riding, rafting and sailing, plus lots of hiking trails.
Days out with the kids? Maybe treat them to a trip to the Cité du Chocolat (10 minutes), animal encounters at Safari de Peaugres (half an hour) or a visit to the offbeat Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval (35 minutes), where one man single-handedly crafted an amazingly detailed and decorated house and garden over the course of 33 years.
