- Scenic, family-friendly site on the banks of the Durance river
- Walking distance to Réotier; Mont-Dauphin 10 minutes' drive
- Barbecue area, food shop and pétanque on site; river access for canoes
The best way to enjoy the scenery in the area around Eygliers… hiking, mountain biking, kayaking – or perhaps just relaxing in a camping chair? Any or all of these can be part of your plan when you stay at Camping La Fontaine, a quiet family site about 10 minutes' drive from the village.
The shaded terraced pitches here are part of a 10-acre site made up of Mediterranean pine forest and sunny open meadows along the banks of the Durance river. It’s an attractive spot indeed, with lots of suitable little corners for those who’d like to take up the camping chair option. Meanwhile, more active guests can launch kayaks or canoes on the river (hire them close by if you don't have your own) or get out nearby for all sorts of walks and bike rides.
This is a particularly good area for hikers and cyclists, with the Écrins National Park on one side and the Queyras Regional Natural Park on the other. There are also various adventure sports to try out nearby – including rafting and canyoning – or you can take things easy with a stroll around the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mont-Dauphin, 10 minutes' drive away.
There are options for gentle activities on site too, with a pétanque court, a ping pong table and some games for the kids all part of the setup. There are a few facilities for food as well, including a barbecue area, a small convenience store (with essentials, local products and ice creams) and a bread/pastries delivery service in high season. For other foodie needs there’s a grocery store five minutes' drive away in Saint-Crépin or a supermarket 10 minutes away in Guillestre.

Local attractions
There are plenty of ways to get active in this area – have a chat with the team on site for recommendations of hiking routes or mountain biking trails (cyclists have a splendid 250 miles of marked trail to choose from…). There are also some great climbing areas around places like Saint-Crépin and Guillestre, and local activity centres organise things like rafting, canyoning and paragliding.
Back firmly on solid ground, Mont-Dauphin (10 minutes’ drive) is well worth exploring – the Vauban fortifications here have earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. A nice way to get there is to follow the Marmot Trail from Eygliers (10 minutes), looking out for the animals themselves scurrying around too.
Briançon (half an hour), the highest city in France, is also worth a trip – as is the more local Réotier, walkable from the site. The houses in this pretty village have pink marble features, and there’s an extraordinary natural ‘petrifying fountain’ to see.
