Liked: Lovely riverside view and tranquil location. Can walk into quiet town with a few bars and restaurants. Friendly staff, well maintained site. Recommend armoured cable if you want riverside as hook up points across the roadway.

Disliked: Showers a bit small, no toilet paper.

Liked: The site was beautifully located on the banks of the river Vienne. The mangers /owners were very friendly and helpful. The pitches were a good size.

Disliked: The electrical leads being driven over as they were connected to points some distance away. The position of the toilets immediately adjacent to the washing up sinks.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: This has to be one of the best camp sites we’ve been to. It’s incredibly well organised, extremely clean and great size pitches. They offer free kayaking on the Vienne and bike riding. Also don’t miss out on the amazing pizzas that are cooked freshly most nights! There are a couple of different shower blocks, again both and clean and easily accessible. We had 2 children with us and this site was perfect for them. There’s a small play park and a great beach on the river. It’s only a 5 minute walk into Confolens, so ideally suited for an evening walk and dinner. The only thing to look out for is the bird droppings! Most pitches are under a tree or two, so just make sure you allow an extra 20 minutes for wiping them off. We can’t wait to come back and would highly recommend to anyone considering visiting the site.

Liked: Beautiful location on the banks of La Vienne, with lounging chairs, picnic tables and small tables provided to make best use of thr position. Very easy to find - off the (pretty quiet) main road, just before Confolens if travelling south. The hosts could not have been nicer! Top service, very attentive and helpful. Also made excellent take away steak hachè :) I would stay here again.

Local attractions

As well as the fishing and canoeing straight from the site, you can find swimming, horse riding, tennis and more canoeing within a kilometre at Confolens. After all that, stick around in town to access a trip along the former railway line between Confolens and Roumazières, or – much recommended – taking your own velorail along the old railway track via rivers, forest, grassland and viaducts. If you're around in August, Confolens is the annual host of the International Folklore Festival, which sees hundreds of performers turn up to tell their tales. By car, La Colline Enchantée animal park 10 kilometres away and the Lacs de Haute Charente adventure park (15 kilometres) should see approval from the kids; within about an hour are the cartoonish attractions of painted walls, comics festival and Museum of Cartoons at Charente capital Angoulême. Châteaux are simple to get to from here too: try Château de St Germain (five kilometres), Château de Rochebrune (15 kilometres) and Château de Peyras (also 15 kilometres).
