  • Between Bagnoles-de-l'Orne spa town and Lassay-les-Châteaux
  • A 10-minute drive to windsurfing and fishing at La Ferté-Macé lake
  • Spectacular views of the Normandie-Maine Regional Natural Park
What a pretty and petit site this is: on the edge of the Normandie Maine National Park, where the vista is verdant and the sunsets smashing, Camping La Patte d'Oie lies on the main road between Lassay-les-Châteaux and the spa town of Bagnoles de L’Orne (both an easy 10-minute drive from base), and you’re within easy reach of several tiptop attractions and historic sites too. If you’re looking for some family-friendly outdoor action for all while you’re on your hols, it’s worth knowing that this park is also a short drive to a 28-hectare lake and beach with a good selection of land- and water-based activities in and around it such as pedalo boating, windsurfing, canoeing and fishing, as well as volleyball, boules, miniature golf and a climbing wall. Pitches are laid out across four acres and have fably full views of the countryside that surrounds, and they're also handily just off the D34 for easy access to various jaunts, including the kilometre-long journey to the centre of Couterne village and its shops, boutiques, bars and cafés. The toilet and shower amenities are accessible, and a washing-up area is also at your disposal for cleansing the plastic picnic crockery and whatnot after balmy barbecue soirées on site.

BK Bluebird 2 bedroom mobile home

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Merci pour votre commentaire.

Convenient over night stop. Would have been a nice area to stay on.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Greeted by my name being called from across the field, then offered a drink, being British I chose a nice cup of tea of course, although other beverages were offered. Now, if that doesn't tell you everything about the site owners (a wonderful couple, happy to chat and help you settle in) and their attentiveness nothing will. They have a pride for their site as they built it from nothing, I personally admired that fact, again that should tell you something about their view and high standards when it comes to maintaining the grounds and facilities. It was more than acceptable, the shower hot and powerful, toilet clean, dishwashing area spotless, pitches well sized giving 360 degree views. The site is indeed small, which brings the personal touches, and some GLAMpours will enjoy the free hand wash, the free toilet paper, the free paper towels, they'll love the toilet seat AND lid, the removable shower head will bring them joy (stop it), they won't need to worry about any mould on the shower curtain as there wasn't any, nor will they need to be concerned about dirt in the corners of the sanitary unit, again because there wasn't any. Now I did bring a little grass in on my right flip flop, but I made sure I left the room as I found it with the famous (yes I've read other reviews) squeegee and pushed those 8 blades of grass straight back out. After my shower I noticed the water gathering in the trap that I'd read about, and then the funniest thing happed...while I dried off and got sorted, without me noticing, gravity had worked it's magic and that water had disappeared, who knew? Phone reception was perfectly acceptable for a bit of streaming, so the lack of WiFi wasn't an issue. Very peaceful area, no barking dogs in the distance, no cockerel calls early morning. True campers will appreciate a well maintained campsite, in fact that sentence could have been my entire review. Oh yes, and my accommodation was absolutely phenomenal.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike at all.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: It was absolutely lovely campsite, run by a welcoming couple. The pitches were incredibly spacious, and had a beautiful view over the neighbouring farm fields. The electric was really close too so we didn’t need to worry if our electric hookup would reach. The bathroom was clean and a squeegee was provided to wipe away any grass that your shoes carried in. It was very peaceful too.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks Abigail, it was a pleasure to meet you both and so glad you had a relaxing time. We wish you all the best with your ongoing vacation.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Julie and Ian are excellent hosts who were appropriately attentive and available with local information on essential services and amenities as well as attractions further afield. Clean and well maintained shower and lavatory facilities inspected daily, plentiful hotwater, dishwasher facilities too. Lovely to have the additional covered seating area with garden furniture where you can cook and prepare meals if the weather is less favourable. Would not hesitate to recommend recommend this site and Julie and Ian as hosts, Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable,so much so that we have requested the same pitch and dates next year

Local attractions

There’s a good bit to do within easy reach of Camping La Patte d'Oie, whether you’re after strolls around historic sites, adrenalised outdoor adventure or some family fun based around the lake. First up, there’s heaps to do at beaut Bagnoles-de-l'Orne, a pretty old spa town with hot spring baths and a rather ample range of leisure facilities including a big public outdoor pool, tennis courts, a crazy golf course, cycle paths and a lake (with pedalo and rowing boat hire). A nine-hole golf course also lies nearby, and you can take to the town’s Vélo Rail to trip through d'Andaines forest too. The much larger 28-hectare lake at La Ferté-Macé (a fast 15 minutes’ drive from La Patte d'Oie) also has a whole stack of family activities to get stuck into: apart from pedalo boating, windsurfing, canoeing and fishing on the water itself, there’s an outdoor playground for kids to clamber around, as well as a climbing wall, a miniature golf course, volleyball, boules and a walking circuit around the lake’s perimeter. For something history based, visit the castles and medieval gardens of Lassay-les-Châteaux, or the town of Domfront, where there’s a medieval castle and old town as well as the Rouellé marshes for a bit of wildlife spotting and birdwatching.
