Coco Sweet 2 bedroom safari tent

Liked: Lovely site ,very friendly. The kids loved the park and bouncy castle.

Disliked: The deposit although quickly returned on departure it was more than the price to stay. There is no kids club or activities as advertised online which was very disappointing. Also a lot of workers being undertaken during our stay so be prepared for tractors diggers chainsaws and general works to be ongoing all day Monday to Friday.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Lovely campsite in a quite area with friendly staff and inclusive fishing included in the price of the pitch making it really good value for money and would definitely stay again in the future. Has all the facilities you could need toilets, showers, club house with bar and food availability plus entertainment. Really can't fault the place and loved it

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: The lakes and welcoming staff. It caters for a mobile home campsite more than just camping but 1 night was fine.

Disliked: I think it’s overpriced for one off campers. The showers/toilets are probably the worst I have experienced in 3 weeks of camping which is a shame as it has so much potential. If those could be improved it would be a great campsite. Also it has huge potential to be peaceful- not when you decide to start the tractor at 9am. Maybe consider your guests before you do that?

Coco Sweet 2 bedroom safari tent

Liked: Accommodation was clean and had a fridge and microwave so we didn't have to rely on a camping stove all the time. Toilet/shower block was simple but kept clean.

Disliked: €400 deposit was asked for on arrival. I didn't have this to spare so my card declined. Made me feel sick before holiday began. Thankfully they let us in without leaving a deposit.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: My travelling companion and I had a good look around the area as part of a long trip that'd see us needing a rest-stop for a single night - from the area, Camping Les Étangs du Plateau des Landes was a clear winner not just for price, but existing reviews and it's location. The site is easily found and Waze led us right there with no problems whatsoever. We were warmly greeted by Lucile, who was extremely helpful and who was happy to answer a few questions of ours - these would ensure we were happily settled, giving a most pleasant impression that would reflect our feelings from the start. A very good booklet was made available which, while not being a native speaker gave a clear idea of what was being communicated - easily translated using Google Translate's camera feature this was quite helpful and services were available such as bread delivery and if visiting on a weekend also had food available, as well as a bar. Facilities are great, with each pitch having access to independent water and electric hookups if needed and while we didn't take advantage on this occasion, would no doubt be beneficial if they had been. There's even a recepticle to catch water from the tap which is wonderful and a feature I would dearly like to see more sites take note of and use! The bathrooms/toilets were all well kept and while other guests may have left indications of their presence from time to time, these were clearly looked after quite well and provided a welcome shower - these are easily above average from other sites I've used in the past and provide privacy from others rather than communal areas some others use. While using a quick to raise/lower tent with an awning, we had no trouble erecting at all and the pitch was level, just firm enough to give great peg purchase and clearly well looked after - there's a clearly defined area to park in, pitch on and even a tree stump which had it's own utility as a table/seat! Other guests were all courteous and polite and while only here one night as a rest-stop, were even foreward enough to ask if we minded their playing some music in the evening in case this disturbed us which was very kind! Overall it left a great impression of the site and I would be quick to recommend this to anyone - I'd dearly like to visit again and perhaps take advantage of one of the Safari tents to save on bringing camping gear. The location is just right for visiting a wealth of locations, whether historical such as museums or memorials through to towns/cities as all are in easy reach of main travel routes.

Disliked: This is no reflection on the site - we were going to book one of the Safari tents to start with but were put off by the quite large damage/cleanliness/bracelet deposit of (at time of writing) £411 (€480). I can only imagine either a particularly unpleasant past guest was responsible for this at some point as I've never, ever seen one so high. Having used Bed & Breakfasts, hotels and even couch surfing etc some have included a similar refundable deposit however never higher than ~£30-60 unless particularly "upmarket" which were higher at around ~£120. Had this been lower, we definitely would've selected this instead - we can only hope this may happen in future and offer our sympathies to the owners/management for whatever may have happened to necessitate it being so high to start with! The only real negative were the gates - which are at both the entrance and exit - which while apparently completely functional as intended for cars, for our motorcycles simply refused to open, so we had to go around these as the sensors just couldn't pick up on them! Keypads were present and evidently allowed for opening these, but no code was provided so perhaps was a function available only to staff.

Local attractions

A day in the Marais Audomarois (15 minutes’ drive) may be on your sightseeing list. With vast tracts of market gardens and canals still only navigable by water, the best way to explore this manmade marshland is on a flat-bottomed traditional wooden ‘bacôve’ boat. Take your binoculars to search for bitterns, kingfishers and storks in the Romelaëre Nature Reserve (20 minutes), ancient peat bogs now criss-crossed with hiking routes. Add some culture into your holiday mix with a visit to Saint-Omer (10 minutes’ drive), where you can view decorative arts at Hotel Sandelin Museum and admire the jewel-coloured stained-glass windows in the Gothic-era Cathedral of Notre-Dame. Wind up your visit at a pavement café in Place du Maréchal Foch, where there’s a lively market on Saturday mornings. Kids demanding more action? Hit the rollercoasters and waterslides at family-orientated Dennlys Parc (20 minutes), or pedal through Pays de Lumbres woodland along the Trotti-trail (25 minutes) following a former railway line. Hit a rare rainy day? Divert to the indoor pool at SCENEO (10 minutes) to wear off excess energy swimming laps.
