  • Peaceful family site in northern France, 45 minutes' drive from Calais
  • Less than an hour's drive from Le Touquet and Boulogne-sur-Mer
  • Access to nearby sister sites for pools, gym and family activities
Get set to stretch your legs at Camping La Nouvelle Aventure in Audincthun – the site’s rural Pas-de-Calais location makes it a good spot for walks and bike rides, and the nearby Opal Capes and Marshes Regional Natural Park opens up a bunch of hiking trails if you like to stick to a marked route. Legs getting tired at the mere idea of all this? Étang Martin Pécheur (10 minutes' drive away in Matringhem) has a splendid 12 ponds suitable for fishing carp and trout instead. To fuel all this activity in the tastiest way possible, the brasserie on site serves lunch and dinner (except on Mondays), along with pizzas and hamburgers to take away. For self-catering, time your outings to coincide with one of the area’s many market days and get your hands on some fine fresh produce – Hesdin and Saint-Omer (both half an hour away) and Etaples (45 minutes) all come recommended. Not market day? A supermarket is five minutes' drive away too. Back at base, kids can work off excess energy on the football field, playground and trampoline, or get involved in a game of pétanque or table tennis. Guests also have access to further facilities at sister site Camping La Tentation (a 15-minute drive away in Renty), where fitness fans can work out the gym, then mosey to the sauna and Jacuzzi as a post-exercise treat (the exercise part is optional, don’t worry). Stage competitive family tournaments here with karting, tennis, football, basketball and miniature golf, opt for a pony walk around the park or take a dip in the swimming pools. Guests can also stop at Camping La Sensation in Matringhem to have a go at zorbing.

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: When we arrived there was no one in reception or on the site at all , we had to pitch up ourselves , the toilet and shower were disgusting , nowhere to empty chemical toilet , we didn’t find the rubbish bins until we departed as they were out on the roadside , we were expecting to eat a meal at the restaurant advertised but in the middle of summer it was all closed up ! No where to purchase food near by on a Sunday I called the number on the reservation who said they would contact their colleague and get them to call me , I have not receive a call as yet

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked: The site was quiet, I'll give them that!

Disliked: It felt like an abandoned yard, and there was no one on reception despite us arriving prior to their closing time. This meant we were unable to use their indoor toilet as they had promised on email and the outdoors ones were closed. The site was waterlogged, and there were abandoned buildings / caravans / playground equipment etc all over. It didn't feel very safe, as a result. Would not return.

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked: Excellent location. Check in was really easy and the young lady receptionist was really pleasant and helpful. The toilet was really clean. It was just a shame that we had strong winds and torrential rain so that we didn't see it at its best.

Local attractions

You don’t have to go far for theme park fun – Dennlys Parc, a five-minute drive away, has plenty to keep all ages amused. Or, for something more educational, history and science come together at La Coupole (20 minutes), a World War II museum set in a large underground bunker, with a 3D planetarium taking visitors on a trip through the universe. Nausicaá, a huge aquarium home to around 1,600 species, is around 50 minutes away in the seaside town of Boulogne-sur-Mer. It’s a major fishing port, so make a pitstop for some seafood before carrying onto the 13th-century castle and the art museum housed within. For more beach days (loaded with ice cream, of course), Le Touquet is around 55 minutes away. Not planning on a splash in the sea? Make sure you pack your swimmers anyway, because you might just fancy a trip to Aqualud waterpark to splash about with the slides, indoor and outdoor pools and wave machines.
