  • Family-run site in Ardres, five minutes' walk from town centre
  • A 20-minute drive to Calais; half an hour to north-coast beaches
  • Private fishing pond on site; three minutes' walk from Lac d’Ardres
Quiet lakeside location for the peaceful vibes or handy town setting for the convenience of being able to walk to a shop? No need to choose when you’re staying at Camping Ardresien – this Nord-Pas-de-Calais site is in a particularly choice position in the town of Ardres, about five minutes’ walk from the town centre, which hosts summer night markets. In the other direction, it's just a three-minute walk from Lac d’Ardres (along a direct path), a popular spot for pedal boating, renting small boats, slurping on an ice cream or watching the annual July fireworks. This family-run site is a friendly and laidback site where pets and kids are welcome and pitches are quiet and well kept. A play area and pétanque court are on site, along with picnic tables where you can serve up your meals (cooked on a barbecue if you’d like to bring one along). The highlight for many people, though, is the private fishing pond, available for guests to use during their stay. The edge-of-town location is a very handy one that puts you just a few minutes’ walk from a good variety of shops and places to eat, along with other amenities like banks and a post office. Being about 20 minutes’ drive from Calais is another bonus on the location front too, as it puts cross-channel travellers within easy reach of the ferry port (and makes this site a good choice for a first or last night). The nearby coast isn’t all about ferries, of course – you’ll also be able to get to a nice sandy beach or a coastal nature reserve. Turning the other way, there are lots of walks and other outdoor activities in the Caps et Marais d’Opales Regional Natural Park.

What customers say

Immaculate, well-kept site with friendly owners, handy location near Calais/town. Pitches are spacious, private, often with water/waste. Shower tokens and no toilet seats/paper noted as typical for France, but overall, guests loved it and want to come back.

Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt campsite

Liked The lovely warm welcome and the way we were shown to our pitch and all the facilities. After checking the disabled shower room, we asked if we could have an extra chair. This was no problem for the owner who went and got one straight away for us and put it into the disabled room. Nothing was too much trouble. Nice size pitch with water electric and chemical waste on pitch. At the back of the campsite we're some nice walks around the lakes.

Disliked Not much in the town to look at, and a bit run down

Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Friendly host, nice campsite in a lovely area. Shower block and toilets clean.

Disliked Nothing to dislike. But point to note showers work on a token system but you get plenty of time per token it’s nothing to worry about.

Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt campsite

Liked This stay was part of a touring holiday by myself & my dog along with a single axle caravan with motor movers.
Travelling from & back via Le Shuttle Calais, visiting Pas-de-Calais Hauts-de-France & Normandy. I selected my 4 sites (+2 repeated for the return journey), these sites were selected for their location, convenience, local facilities & reviews via Pitchup.com. All the sites were “Good” or above. The key question is “would I use the site again if travelling to the location / area” All of which are a “yes”, 2 of which were so good for my needs I would go out of my way to stay there again if I had the need.

Camping Ardresien, Ardres
About 15 miles from Calais Le Shuttle terminal.
This is a small compact site, family owned site, ideal for my purposes. Visited twice, once outbound (1 Night) & on my return (2 Nights). It was a great starting point with plenty of local amenities within 1.5 km. The second stay was a great place for access to a great English speaking vets less than 1 km away for sorting my dog’s AHC for my return to the UK, (Clinique Vétérinaire du Camp du Drap d'Or, 50 impasse Bourgelat, ZA des Moulins - D943, 62610 Autingues. (veto.ardres@wanadoo.fr).
Jean, the owner, is a very friendly chap, only to please to assist, he runs a very clean well maintained site, the toilets and showers were immaculate, some cubicles also having toilet paper (Which is not a given at many French sites). Excellent dog walking opportunities around the adjacent fishing lakes. This site has an approx 60/40 split of Static caravans to mobile pitches available. The main access is narrow but can easily be navigated by the average campervan or caravan.

Wi-Fi not used.

Overall excellent. This site I categorise as “I would go out of my way to stay there again if I had the need”. Well done Jean!

Power optional gravel and cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Very friendly helpful owners, nice size hard standing level pitches. Water and grey waste on pitch. Toilet/showers very clean and modern.
Pretty fishing lake on site.

Disliked Showers are a token system which works but I would rather pay one overall price.
Entrance is tight.

Local attractions

For outdoor activities, climb into the trees at Adventure Course Guines (10 minutes’ drive), play a round at Golf du Bois de Ruminghem (20 minutes) or join boat tours from places like Saint-Martin-lez-Tatinghem (25 minutes). If you’ve got the kids with you, you may like to plan trips to Saint Joseph Village (10 minutes), to visit the replica traditional village with things like workshops and a waterfall, and Fééryland (15 minutes), full of colourful games and rides for youngsters.
