Let your troubles wash away with a stay at Camping Les Berges du Célé, a site on the banks of the river in Bagnac-sur-Célé. Les Berges du Célé is in the stunning Lot department, where cities are built on cliffsides and bridges take the art of crossing a river to another level. Getting out into the countryside around Bagnac-sur-Céle is a must – several walking and cycling trails start from Les Berges, and others can be joined within 20 kilometres of the site. There’s plenty on site to keep guests occupied too: you could play a round of pétanque, challenge your friends or family to a badminton, soccer or tennis match, or keep it low energy with a game of table tennis or table football. A municipal pool a five-minute walk away is open during the school holidays with free access to the outdoor pool, paddling pool and relaxation area for Camping Les Berges du Célé guests. After you’ve built up an appetite, take a seat at the café on site to fill up. If you’d prefer to fend for yourself, stock up on food and supplies in Bagnac-sur-Célé or pick up something at one of the town’s bakeries or restaurants.

Local attractions

You won’t have to go far from Les Berges du Célé to enjoy French history, culture and cuisine. In the town of Bagnac-sur-Célé, you can visit the 11th-century Roman bridge spanning the river, the restored water mill at Moulin des Conturies or the weekly market on Place du Foirail. The medieval town of Figeac – less than 20 minutes away by car – is full of old merchants’ houses and medieval market places, but it is the Musée Champollion that you should turn your feet towards. Learn the key to Egyptian hieroglyphics by stopping at the Rosetta Stone, reproduced on a huge slab of granite outside the museum. If you’re comfortable getting a bit of a workout, a visit to the village of Rocamadour, 60 kilometres from Les Berges, is a must. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is simply stunning – it’s built into the side of the cliffs and its narrow streets and steep stairs are deserving of exploration. In the area around Rocamadour, get up to some monkey business with the macaques at Monkey Forest, or plunge under the ground at the spectacular Padirac Caves…
