  • Glamping in smart yurts five minutes' drive from Sauzet
  • Château de Bonaguil, Pterosaur Beach and vineyards within half an hour
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, multisports pitch and electric bike hire
Take a look out over the valley from Camping Les Hauts d’Albas – oui, that is a vineyard view you see before you. And that just might give you a clue that winery tours are among the attractions that await for guests at this smart site five minutes’ drive from Sauzet. Indeed there is much of the good stuff to be tasted around this part of the Lot Valley; and there’s much more to do between sippings too – châteaux, village potterings, ancient cave paintings, horse riding, tree climbing, fossil trails, hikes, bike rides… Feeling exhausted at the mere idea of it all? Fear not, for your digs are well set up for post-activity relaxation – each of the spacious yurts here is kitted out with heaps of home comforts, including heating, air conditioning, comfy beds and a TV. Cook up a feast in the fully-equipped kitchen to eat indoors or out on your private terrace as you watch the stars come out. And if you want to check on the moon’s progress after you’ve retreated indoors, there’s another handy stargazing spot under the skylight at the top of the yurt. Should you (or more likely the nippers) have energy to spare, it’s handy to know that can be taken over to the pétanque court, multisports pitch or the games barn, or for swims in either the indoor or outdoor pool, depending on the time of year.

Local attractions

Fancy a glass of wine? Of course you do – and there are many places to try the local vino around these parts, for this is very much grape-growing territory. Head down towards the Lot river and it’s a cinch to spend a pleasant day or few meandering between the wineries scattered around its surrounds – you should be able to get to several with a drive of 20 minutes or so. If you’d like to get out on the Lot’s waters, Puy-l’Évêque’s the place. It’ll take you 25 minutes to drive here for a choice of traditional barge trips or DIY days paddling a canoe or kayak along the river. Horse riding and treetop adventure trails are within a 40-minute drive if you’d like to see the scenery from a different angle. Other family days out nearby might include taking wannabe knights to the medieval antics at Château de Bonaguil (45 minutes’ drive), checking out the rock paintings at Pech Merle Cave (an hour) or following the dino discovery trail at Pterosaur beach (25 minutes).
