A swimming pool in the site name is a pretty good start for people planning to take the plunge numerous times on their holiday… but things get even better for guests at Moselle-based Camping Piscine du Plan Incliné, for the pool here is filled with natural springwater, allowing you to take multiple dips without fear of overdosing on chemicals.
And if that’s not enough to satisfy your splashing urges, the site’s also on the banks of the Zorn river, with entry spots a short stroll away for times when you fancy a dip in moving waters. Fishing folk can dangle their rods in the river just by the site, and there are boat trips and canoe hire to be had close by, too.
Even if you're not planning to dip as much as a toe in the waters, this is an excellent spot for a bit of outdoor activity. A network of walking and cycle paths runs through the surrounding Vosges forest and you can hire bikes on site to pedal your way around if you wish. The Saint-Louis-Arzviller boat lift 10 minutes’ walk away is worth a stop while you’re out rambling by the river.
For eats, continue the open-air theme by snaffling supermarket supplies 10 minutes’ drive away in Phalsbourg, then light up a river-view barbecue. Breakfast bits can be picked up in Henridorff (five minutes’ drive/10 minutes by bike), and there’s a restaurant just next to the site if you just don’t fancy cooking.

Local attractions
It might not sound like something that’d feature on tourist schedules, but there’s much fascination to be had watching the vessels being hoisted between levels at the Saint-Louis-Arzviller boat lift, 10 minutes’ walk away. It was built in 1969 to replace the 17 locks of the Eclusiers valley, 10 minutes away by bike and now a most agreeable place for a walk, a traffic-free bike ride or a spot of fishing.
For a bit more walking or bike pedalling, you may like to seek out Rocher de Dabo (15 minutes’ drive), where a church sits on top of a huge pink sandstone rock, venture underground at Grotte Saint-Léon (25 minutes) or trek to the pretty Nideck waterfall (35 minutes).
If you like your treasures to be manmade, scoot along to see the experts in action at the Lehrer Crystal workshop (10 minutes’ walk), or take a wander around the ruins of Château de Lutzelbourg (10 minutes’ drive) and medieval Château du Haut-Barr (20 minutes).
